Yup, and the quality of the printing is "pretty good" - the quality of the color printing in screenshots and the like is particularly nice, I'd say.

At some point I really need to start posting up pictures of my game-related book library. It is probably more interesting than my game collection on many levels.

Yes, it looks like that. The cover is glossy/plastic-like paper and the pages are not "glassy" - they are like a heavy office paper stock. Again, I think it is a pretty well made book, especially for the cost.

I'll vouch for Racing the Beam. Great book.

I'm a fan of Dungeons and Desktops, which is a very interesting look at the evolution of computer RPGs through the beginning of the World of Warcraft era.

Heh just realized I've been going about this all wrong with sound output for all my modern-ish systems. Just realized they all can do optical aux which means I just need a small sound system or just some speakers and pick up a switch when I go to the bank tomorrow :D

Just in case you're interested, how about this Wu-Tang PS1 controller only released in Europe for their Shaolin style fighting game?

I hate rambling about framerate and PC all the time because I really don't want to seem elitist or anything stupid like that. But I find it really hard not to, especially since I'm trying to embrace console gaming more since my living situation doesn't really allow me to stay as on top of the PC gaming scene as much as I want to.

It's hard to go back to playing games on console after several years of just playing everything at 60 frames per second. It's not about resolution or detail or even controls in my case. I adapt to a controller fine and I'm not that picky about resolution and IQ. Yet, I go to play Gears of War or Project Gotham on my Xbox and I'm immediately put off by how choppy everything looks and plays. Sure, there are rare cases like Forza Horizon, which looks and plays surprisingly well but I can still feel the huge amount of latency in control, no matter how okay it actually looks. The bar minimum of latency in a 30fps game is somewhere around 100ms whilst a 60fps game can achieve far below 67ms. It's not as easy to feel on a controller as it is a mouse but I can definitely tell its there. In any case, some games, like Persona 4 and Catherine, don't have much movement and don't really need 60 frames per second to play well and look good doing it and that's fine. But any and every action game I have played below that framerate so far has left me wanting. I felt like I was starting to get used to it but then, I found myself owning a laptop and when I was able to download some games in town, I was right back where I was when I initially started this whole journey.

I'm happy to see that, at least for now, the new generation of consoles seem to be focussing on high framerate and image quality over graphical detail but I have no doubt that it will revert back to the way it was on the 360 and PS3. Nintendo seems to be holding onto 60fps more with their more simplistic artistic designs and focus on solid gameplay over all else but who knows. It's just odd as I have played a lot of Dreamcast as of late and so many of those titles run at that so-called hard to achieve performance level with seemingly no issue. It feels like everything took a step backward.

I feel like a jackass for letting something that so many gamers don't really seem to mind or take note of bug me this much. I know what I like though and I like silky smooth gameplay. I guess I'll just keep gaming where I'm offered that experience and that's still PC.
