Yeah, I wasn't sure I wanted to have kids, and thought I may not. My wife was a bit late in her obgyn appointment to get a bc prescription. That 2 week lapse was all it took!

So it wasn't planned, but we weren't upset it happened either. If it happened it happened. But now that I have one, I want another and fairly soon. It was either 0 or 2 for me. I want my children to have a sibling and I want them somewhat close in age, less than 3 years apart. So clock is ticking...

Now I'm not talking about castration but vasectomies.
I'm not talking about castration either. Google "Eugenics in America" to see what I'm talking about. It's kind of horrifying. Certain brainheads thought it was the government's responsibility to remove certain, "undesirables" from the gene pool.

@Luke. That's pretty funny. I love Married...with children.

To be more clear, I'm not speaking about eugenics. Some people, such as those born with genetic disorders or diseases that can seriously affect quality of life or cause horrible birth defects may have a "medically necessary" vasectomy at the age which they can procreate. Now, I suppose it is still voluntary if you want to get literal about it...in the sense that they consent to the procedure.

When I worked at the YMCA I automatically got a free gym/pool membership. Now, I am (well, I was) in pretty good shape. A long distance runner, occasional bike rider, etc.

So I go in there the first day thinking "well if I can run 26 miles I can swim one mile, right?" Well, no. I got destroyed. Maybe a quarter of a mile in I'm suckin' down water and flailing around. Eventually had to cling to the side of the pool, rested for a few minutes, and then hauled my ass out of there. To add insult to injury, I was mocked by a lifeguard.

I did get better after a lot of practice. Had dreams of doing a triathlon until I realized how much a decent bike would set me back.

Everyone underestimates just how physical swimming really is. When you're running it's basically just your legs and your lungs going, same with biking. Swimming is legs, arms, and a lot in your trunk to keep everything lined up. And water has so much more resistance than air or a bike in proper gear.

Hey, you don't need a good bike to participate in a bicycle race. You don't really expect to win your first Triathlon anyway, right? Just go to your local pawn shop and throw down seventy-five bucks on a bike. Make sure that the breaks, rear derailleur, and chain are all in working order.

Yeah, definitely realized that swimming laps is much more physical than just floating around in a pool. Growing up in Florida I practically lived in the water and most of my summers were spent in someone's pool. Never tried doing laps or swimming competitively though.

I think I am going to try and alternate swimming/gym from this point on. At least until it gets too cold to swim.

:( So the last two nights, I have been having a hard time staying asleep. Each time I would wake up at around 3 AM and it would take me a few hours to try and go back to sleep....each successive time being more difficult. Tonight, I woke up and it has be absolutely impossible for me to go to sleep. The mind is willing, but the body is not in this scenario as my brain is moving at a snail's pace, and my body just refuses to sleep.

This sucks.

Have you tried getting out of bed and doing as many pushups as you can? That usually helps me.
