Oh, that's what you were doing?
I did then link several pages in which I laid out and defended my argument.

Didn't realize that you'd all get so bent out of shape when someone suggested something beloved isn't all that and a bag of chips :? Just because I can explain why I find something to be shitty doesn't mean people can't also find said thing to be enjoyable.

Great minds think alike (on some things).

.....

On topic, I am surprised - and a bit disappointed - that no one has mentioned Robert Mitchum (and that I am the only one who has mentioned Edward G. Robinson).

Whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhat?

Jackie Chan is badass.

I think it was SUPERCOP where he broke his foot, wore a cast, and still did ridiculous stunts. The movie also features a kid who plays a Gameboy with no game in it. It's joyous.

Yeah, they just must have terrible taste, right?

I read that, and you basically just dissed on a movie that a lot of the members liked at the time and wrote a review that assumed people who actually watched the movie had to agree with you, knowing full well people didn't agree with you.

And you somehow still convince yourself the problem is about how people respond to you, not to what you actually do. You're like a bully that punches people in the nose and then says "It's not my fault you're a pussy who can't take it." It's not our actual disagreement over a movie that bothers me. What bothers me is your disrespect for those that hold a different opinion to your own, combined with your self-defensiveness and deflection when a critical eye gets turned back on you.

Nope. Rumble in the Bronx is when he broke his foot, and still finished the movie.

Just to be clear, this statement did not bother me at all, and I considered it gentle ribbing (at most). That said...I am out of here until we are back to debating whether Zap Rowsdower is tougher than Chance Boudreaux. (I am also disappointed that no one has mentioned JCVD in this thread...)

Finally, I am exceedingly disappointed that no one has mentioned Samuel L. Jackson.

I didn't assume anyone HAD to agree with me, I made an argument about why I thought they might consider agreeing with me if they didn't. I also assumed (correctly) that there were people who would already agree with me about the film, mostly for the same reasons.

I "dissed" the movie by critiquing its acting performances and directing choices as well as what I felt was the heavy hand of the marketing department in its creation. I substantiated these critiques with observations about things that happened in the film that seemed "shitty" to me compared to how those things are handled in other films. This is a forum where we debate and disagree about stuff with one another. Not everything is fucking roses and wine, and not every thing that people like is beyond reproach. There are no sacred cows and we all like stuff that other people quite reasonably think is dumb.

Warning! Warning! Self-defensiveness, commence!:

What deflection? I am happy to discuss the strengths and weakness of a movie, game, or whatever at all times. I certainly haven't ever lost respect for someone as a person just because they don't agree with my view on game X or movie Y. I might suggest they have poor taste or are missing something (at least as regards that particular movie), but really, more than anything, criticism is an invitation to debate the merits of said thing. If someone thinks it is "bullying" because it is argumentative or negative and because people take it too personally then that's their problem. (to paraphrase Fight Club: "You aren't your fucking Netflix queue. You aren't your fucking game collection.")

For some more concrete examples, I know that prfsnl_gmr would, if pressed, be able to give me a good list of reasons for why he liked Scott Pilgrim and while I would likely disagree with him I would appreciate the effort to make his point of view better understood. In those old posts about the film I linked to, Gamerforlife disagreed with me quite a bit but also regularly substantiated his answers and explained his logic. While we didn't concur on that film in the end, that doesn't mean I don't otherwise respect his views on TV/film/games/whatever...In fact, I like reading his reviews and feel I know how he approaches things better after our different debates over the years (I find it quite interesting when our perspectives align!).
