Black Sabbath's frontman has a cameo in Brutal Legend, and since Jack Black is in Tenacious D, I guess he deserves a spot on this list for this game too. Crazy Train!

Also featured Lemmy, Rob Halford and Lita Ford pretty much playing themselves.

Frederic: Evil Strikes Back and Frederic: Resurrection of Music featuring Frederic Chopin


This isn't exactly modern popular music, but in this rhythm game you play the role of Frederic Chopin back from the dead and on a mission to save music itself from soulless corporate hacks.

There was that "Make My Video" series on the Sega CD.

I think I forgot those as a subconscious defense mechanism to protect me from remembering their awfulness. It takes talent to be remembered in history as worse Sega CD games than Night Trap.

Aren't there a ton of musicians' licensed likenesses in the Rock Band games?

Yeah... there are so many of those and Guitar Hero games that I just didn't feel like listing them all out. I also think they are less interesting for this topic than games with fictional storylines that incorporate rock stars as characters, so I just left them out, but they are certainly notable games.
