3D World came out years after the Galaxy games and is the natural evolution of that gaming model. I'd hope they would get that better given the resources put in.

The Galaxy games were great for their time though.

Frankly I'd go as far as to say that 3D World is the best 3D Mario, period.
I'd go that far too.

I get that, but the general consensus online seemed to be "Yeah, it's great, but it's not as good as galaxy" or "well it's more of a spin off. It's not a TRUE successor to the 3D Mario series."

I thought Galaxy sucked. Probably the worst 3D Mario platformer.

So I'm not completely mad (or at least not alone) for struggling to 'get' this Mario game? Cool to know

Right now, I think I'm with you on that.

I actually prefer the collect-a-thon nature of the 64-Galaxy games; I feel like that kind of level design makes better use of 3D space. While 3D World feels more like a traditional 2D Mario game translated into 3D, the collect-a-thon games feel entirely unique, and as the genre has been all but abandoned these days, I miss it a lot more. That said, Banjo-Kazooie is superior to any of the collect-a-thon Mario games, hands-down.

I definitely liked the Banjo games a lot more than DK64. DK64 was collect-a-thon gone way, way, way too far for me.

I actually just ordered Galaxy 2 the other day since I've been in the Mario mood lately (ran through New Super Luigi U and now Super Mario World again). Pretty excited since I loved Galaxy and have always heard 2 is even better.

I might prefer 3D World though. That game was just perfection to me. To the point FUN!

Def have to disagree here, at least in practical gameplay. ME1 got really monotonous for me after a while due to repetitiveness and unfulfilling combat. ME2 felt much better in that department. Not gonna address story issues, cause that's not as clear cut for me.

I guess that's the mainstream opinion, though, so this is the right place for you to talk about your feelings on the matter ; )

To elaborate on my reasons for feeling ME1 was better than ME2, I feel ME1 was much more of an RPG and that's what I wanted from the trilogy.

ME1 was a RPG, with some slightly clumsy combat and, at times, repetitive sections (e.g. The driving sections). To be honest, however, I could live with the clumsy combat and those driving sections, because I still found the game engaging, the characters interesting and the story was well executed.

ME2 had a big overhaul and made heavy improvements to the combat and got rid of many of the flaws of ME1 (e.g. No more driving sections). The problem was, it feels, to me, that they dumbed down the RPG elements heavily. It now feels like a shooter, with RPG elements tacked on. The story doesn't engage me as much now, the characters don't interest me (even Shepard seems like a bit of a dick now, regardless of the fact mine is supposed to be Paragon) and the story is boring me. Every mission I do also just feels like shoot shoot shoot, boring dialogue, shoot shoot shoot ad nauseum.

It's possible though, that because I gave myself the challenge of finally playing through the whole trilogy a few months back, that I just overdosed myself on Mass Effect and the game started to bore me having played them in large doses in a smaller amount of time (whilst a lot of people will have played through the first upon release, waited for the 2nd release years later, and so on).
