Hey happy birthday! What was the drink and how was it? Hopefully you didn't go too overboard! Also what movie did you see!?
I really only had one full drink - a glass of Moscato wine. Everything else was just tasting different drink sample shots. I tried to be pretty responsible about the whole thing.

Oh, and we went to see Jersey Boys, which was the only interesting thing playing when we got to the theater. Still, I was a very happy birthday girl. :)

I'm 24 and I still haven't drank. :P
To be honest, alcohol itself wasn't all that special, in my opinion. I'm not sure what the big hubbub is. XP

I hate drinking and was determined to not drink on my 21st birthday. A group of "friends" brought me to Bourbon Street against my will for my 21st birthday (I thought we were driving back home). I tried to pretend like I was having fun, but I refused to drink. Well, until the ladies had to use the restroom. We weren't anywhere near the Krystal Burger shop and were surrounded by bars. So I took a shot so the ladies could use the restroom... -.-

Maybe time to put those LeBron things back up?

I'm pretty happy that LeBron is going back to Cleveland. He went from "the decision" to being humbled. The Spurs stunning beat down(s) may have led him to think about what was most important about his career.

Will he be welcomed back?

Yes.

The same people who burned his jersey will be singing his praises. Sports fans are fickle, and LeBron will get the red carpet treatment for sure.

Plus, I love the idea of Wade taking hold of the Heat, as it should have been .

Did the Heat give up on purpose? I don't think so. I believe the better team won in the finals. Did the Heat give it their all? That I don't know. But what I do know is that Cleveland rocks, and hopefully James can make it rock a little bit harder.

I pretty much stopped. Think my last alcoholic beverage was November maybe? I rarely drank anyway, usually just out at restaurants. I like beer just fine, but not any more than most nonalcoholic beverages.

Also, 24???? Thought you were 27 or so.

Think I just had the most intense conversation of my life.

A friend of a friend blew off his hand on July 4th. His life has been flipped turned upside down, and he's not moving to Bel Air.

My wife told me "don't be you", which in short means "try to be nice and understanding". But I am what I am.

Man. The tears. They didn't stop. And the guy was tough as nails and looked like Ice Cube, but he had just lost a hand so he wasn't himself. It was a very "why me?" situation. He won't heal for another six months and his job is in jeopardy.

When I told him my wife told me to speak with kindness, he told me to "please be honest". Not having to walk on eggshells helped me lay it out. This guy, although full of tears, could listen to the truth of the matter.

"You're wearing sandals. Is that because you usually wear sandals, or because you can't tie your shoes?"

-I don't know how to tie shoes anymore.

*showed him how*

"You don't have a belt on. Do you usually wear a belt?"

-Yes. I don't know how to put on a belt

*showed him how*

He has pride issues, and I told him to do things his own way, but to not let pride get in his way. Just helping tie his shoes was...something. Moving.

He asked tons of questions, which I answered to the best of my capability. The best of the time was when he asked about the question "What happened to your hand?" and the response I gave was the advice of asking "What happened to your teeth?", and the tears lift his face and for the first time I saw him smile.

Not what I wanted to do, but I did have to do a lot of finger pointing and fist slamming to get him to not get one dimensional, which when I left he understood what I meant. He picked up what I put down, and we'll be in touch so I can help him with his endeavors.

And I almost broke out in tears as well as he asked me if I had kids, and how to deal with kids when you are "different". "Simple" I told him, "See my ears, my nose, my smile, my hands, my feet? We're all made differently!". They smile and shut up.

But yeah. I feel totally emotionally drained. The entire family was there, and they all thanked me, and when I asked "Did I help?" I got a HUGE "yes!" but the guy has a way to go.

I can not unshred my jersey, nor can I afford to have season tickets again (Had them before him and for a couple of years while he was on the team). But I'm glad he gets it and is back for the right reasons.
I cried, and my wife finally understood why he was so important to us as a person than a basketball player, when I read these parts of his essay:
"The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned -- seeing all that was hard for them [his family]. My emotions were more mixed. It was easy to say, “OK, I don’t want to deal with these people ever again.” But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? I’ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We’ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I’ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?"

"But this is not about the roster or the organization. I feel my calling here goes above basketball. I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, and I take that very seriously. My presence can make a difference in Miami, but I think it can mean more where I’m from. I want kids in Northeast Ohio, like the hundreds of Akron third-graders I sponsor through my foundation, to realize that there’s no better place to grow up. Maybe some of them will come home after college and start a family or open a business. That would make me smile. Our community, which has struggled so much, needs all the talent it can get.

In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have.

I’m ready to accept the challenge. I’m coming home."
I know some people don't understand how sports can be so important to some. To me it's about community. We all cheered when our schools won stuff and felt part of the win even if we were not on the football, chess, debate or basketball team. Why don't people understand pro sports is the same but on a national level. The teams represent the people, and for once we had one of our own represent us... and now he is back. Back for all the right reasons. Back because it's home and we are a strong community. If you are not from the Midwest (all states included) you may not understand the family, community, and loyalty we have towards our home towns and states.

So Dave, I am happy he is back but I am more happy for his reasons and his words... a championship would be cool too.

Oh, other than LeBron's return: this article made me smile:
"Then we all left a part of ourselves in Cleveland. There is something about the city that gets inside you and never lets go, something about what it feels like the first day you can see grass poking through the snow after a long winter, something about Cleveland blue skies, something about the way the streets intersect and the many accents you cross, something about the way the restaurants and bars are given first names like “Eddie’s” and “Corky and Lenny’s,” something about the sports mix of hope and gloom that swirls like gin and tonic.

When LeBron James came along, we thought he understood that. He grew up in Akron, which is really Cleveland — Akron, Canton, Wooster, Warren, Elyria, even Youngstown, they’re all Cleveland in a sense. Everything about James coming to the Cavaliers was miraculous in the first place. Here was this basketball Mozart from Northeast Ohio, and he came out just when the Cavaliers needed a savior, and the team hit the lottery. It was so, utterly unCleveland."

The bad part is that the last time the Cavs were in the finals, that was the high point of the Cavs since MJ...
