Any titles to avoid in the Tales series?

Post by blaix »

I'm thinking of giving the Tales series a shot. I've never played any of them. I have a ps1, ps2, and gamecube, so I figured I could start near the beginning, and go from there. Is that a bad move? Are there any titles that are just pure crap?

I played about 2 hrs of Tales of Legendia and Tales of the Abyss promised myself to never punish myself like that again. Kinda liked Tales of Symphonia though. There all kinda the same game though and need to mix it up in future entries.

Tales of Symphonia (gamecube) and Tales of Vesperia (360) are easily the two best titles. Tales of Destiny and Tales of Destiny II (in America, Tales of Eternia in Japan) are also quite good. The ps2 offerings (Abyss and Legendia) were still good, but neither grabbed me quite like the others did.

Look, if you play only one, let it be Tales of Phantasia. It's...awesome.

I'd definately recommend Symphonia, and if you have a GBA then Phantasia is good too.

All I can do is confirm that phantasia and eternia rule, and symphonia is garbage.

I just picked up Phantasia on GBA the other week. I expect it'll be fun, then.

Oh god you've made a horrible mistake. That's one of the worst ports of all time. You might as well buy Sonic the Hedgehog on GBA while you're at it.

Well, FFIV was a poor port on the GBA, too, but it was still playable and entertaining.

No it was an average port. I beat the damn thing, plus I beat the Europe version which had some fixes.

Phantasia is a fucking horrible port. Just play the fan translated snes or ps1 versions. I beg you. It's probably the biggest disappointment on the platform.
