Plus the amount of dust a cars engine is exposed to versus what one experiences in a home is vastly different. Unless u live in an environment that is super dusty in which case u would likely be cleaning your carts on a constant basis the benefits would out weigh the negatives. I recommended the auto electric grease over other lubes since it is non corrosive to plastics. But hey to each his own.
Right, but my point was that electrical connections in the engine bay and such are generally staying plugged up. Say the wire to one of your headlights probably only gets unplugged once every few years. Any dirt or moisture that gets past a connector will likely be stopped by the edge of the layer of the electrical grease. So when you are infrequently replacing the headlight, you can wipe down and apply some new grease for the next 5 years.
On a cartridge slot you may be swapping carts several times per day. If you don't play a NES game for a week, are you always going to wipe down the slot flaps with a damp paper towel to collect any dust before pushing a cart in that scrapes that dust and flings it toward the slot? Yes it might be a tiny amount, especially if your environment is very clean, but you'll end up pushing more dust into the slot that will stick to the grease with that more frequent action that the once every five years or less for car connections.
