If PSO required you to hunt down monsters that migrate, yes.
PSO and MH are similar, but PSO is more arcadey and MH is more simulation. So as you can imagine, both are good for different reasons. But if you like PSO, give a MH a try.
On a basic level, it is very similar. Imagine pso in the "going to levels, killing things, getting gear", but with a really flushed out, skill-based battle system.
I want to say pso meets dark souls, but I'm not sure that quite gets the idea across.
Also, instead of getting random drops, you carve monsters for hides/teeth/etc, and make gear from that. So, instead of "surprise, you got a really good weapon", you actually work for it, gathering parts, and get a huge sense of accomplishment when you finally craft something awesome.
Plus, you can tell what parts/monsters all your gear is made from.
And, like fast said, it has a sim feel to it, although I think calling it straight sim gives off the wrong idea. You farm, but its basic, just drop an herb into a box and you get herbs for a few days. Then, you craft everything: potions, traps, paintballs, poison bombs, everything. But, crafting is super simple, just click on the two items and the are mixed (hopefully, sometimes they turn into garbage)
Its just a weird game, its really hard to describe. It has elements you can describe, but the way they come together really... I dunno, puts you in this world. Everything fits, but still manages to surprise you. Definitely give it a try, at least in an emulator or something.

I have the Wii version, so I've been debating with myself for a while whether I should get the 3DS upgrade.
Is it true that the 3DS version has some sort of lock on? As in, you push a button and you lock on to the nearest enemy? Is that true? If so, is it a persistent lock on or is it just a "camera refocuses towards enemy" every time you push it?
I've recently been playing a lot of Super Mario 3D World. I'm admittedly a huge Nintendo fan and I'm pretty much always enthusiastic about newer first party titles (Mario Kart 8 ROCKS!), yet, somehow this one isn't shaping up quite like I thought it would. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it for what it is and I'm not saying it's a bad game by any stretch of the imagination. It's actually quite good. The levels are well designed and the music is superb as usual. It's just that the style of "3D" and lack of camera angles seems like a step back to me. There's something missing that I can't put my finger on. Still, I am having fun playing through it.
I think the plethora of glowing reviews and the majesty of the Galaxy games may have set my expectations too high.

I feel like they set this up for the multi-player aspect, which may or may not be a good thing. I would honestly love a great single player Mario Game like Galaxy or....dare I say it....Sunshine. 3D world is still charming and well designed, but it doesn't give you the wow feeling you have with the other 3D mario games.

I know it's called 3D Land/World, but it's really not meant to be like the 3D Mario games (64, Sunshine, Galaxy). It's a sort of hybrid between them and the New SMB (2D) series. When 3D Land first came out, and I watched all the trailer footage, I was thinking it would play like Mario 64 but have linear levels like NSMB. So when I first played it, I was thrown off by how the 3D aspect actually works in it. But it's not meant to be 64 or Galaxy. It is what it is (a sort of hybrid).

Oh I can't argue that it is a hybrid, as it really is and is crucial if you want to include multi-player with it and still the game is great, but my body is personally craving those, dare I say, "Traditional," 3D mario games.

Well don't worry, we'll have a new one on the U soon enough. There was nothing at E3 about it, I didn't see, so I'm guessing it'll have to be next E3.

That's exactly it. The name is somewhat misleading as I truly did expect the next great 3D Mario game, but what I got was a mishmash of that and the older stuff with some NSMB mixed in. It's definitely a hybrid.
That all being said, I feel that the game gets MUCH better in the second half, especially near the end!

I just beat the Dawn Of Souls version of FF1 today, and was kind of surprised when it only took ~11 hours for the main game.
Goes to show how much time is spent grinding in the original.
No kidding. I know i've sunk that much time into the original without getting anywhere near as far.
Anywho. I just beat Dawn Of Souls FF2 as well as the bonus dungeons. I got around 17 hours out of the main game and had a good time with it. Navigating through the game was a bit of a pain. I found myself wondering where to go next fairly often and had to have a completed world map out through most of the game. The "save wherever" feature was very welcomed by me, as I spent a lot of time in the last dungeons.
The bonus dungeon was one of my favorites so far. For me it was a grindfest, but it felt worth it most of the way through. Neat premise, even if a bit short aside from the grinding. Got another 6 hours or so out of this.
I started up FF3 on an emulator today and i'm not really sure if I can play this way. The rom I snagged wasn't displaying text right (or the dialog just wasn't translated), so I think i'm stuck with the DS version, which I didn't really care for initially. I wish they would've just done a GBA remake like the rest.
