I think he is referring to a practice of taking games out of their original cases and throwing them away at Gamestop.

It sucks that they do it, but at least I have a lifetime supply of replacement cases. So look at it this way, I am saving those cases. Hell, I have more DS cases than Nintendo LOL!! Seriously though, rescue those cases from the landfill and when you pick up a game with a cracked or ruin case just grab a replacement.

But....but...why?WHY? Why do they do it? The games can't sell for more if they are disks only

GameStop charges the same for a game whether it is complete or disc-only. Why? Because they're a monopoly, and they can get away with it.

1) Why is a monopoly allowed? Where's the free market commission (or what's it called in the states).

2) And why do Americans put up with it? Amazon, ebay, so many online stores.... no offense but I would feel that someone must be pretty stupid to put up with such a policy.

You're actually exactly right; the public IS too stupid to realize that GS is a monopoly. Moreover, people still regard games as obtuse and inconsequential enough that they don't think dealing with such things is important. So, GS continues to have a stranglehold on the market.

1) They are not a monopoly.

2) Most people I know shop online for video games. If you don't like their practices then don't shop there.

I disagree. I was in Rock Hill, South Carolina today, and there are just as many retro-gaming stores (2) as GameStops (2). Also, Gamestop has to compete with Amazon, eBay, and every other online video game seller, and with regard to new games, it has to compete with "big box" retailers like Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, etc. In other words, GameStop has fierce competition, and I do not think that it has or is able to exploit any sort of monopoly power.
