Kinda want to see if I can fix this old laptop of my grandmother's for her to get the images off and on to a cd and repurpose it for my needs since she has her windows 7 laptop(she even has another that we were trying to find that she has for me to take off her hands when I see her again)

If it has an external monitor output (likely VGA) then use that. Way easier than trying to figure out a wonky laptop LCD.

Well the thing is I don't even know how to get it to output to that as it boots up. We just know that it's a old laptop and was on the decline and the whole reason she got the win7 laptop she has now. I know it could probably use a good cleaning but doubt that would fix all the issues with it since i know i haven't personally touched it in a year...

In my previous experience with laptops, the VGA out will often autodetect and display without having to switch graphics settings. Worth a shot anyway.

Well i guess i'll just have to look up more sinfo on the hp dv2000
My last laptop was a dv2000 with the blank screen issue, the Nvidia video chip over heats over time and has to be refluxed to the motherboard!
Not something many can do as it needs to be completely dismantled etc.
this model was made with a design flaw as no heat compound connects this chip to the heat sink/fan, you can look on you tube and see many have had this issue, and few have succefully fixed it...or found a shop to fix it!
Explains so much....don't know or think there's anything I can do to fix it...guess I'll just have to buy a keyboard and hope that the desktop i have works(and if my grandmothers other old computer still works maybe that will be my portable fix without have to sit at a desk)

If that's the problem (and given the series, it probably is), then there's not much you can do unless you want to try baking the motherboard or whatever other home fixes they have (it's basically the same problem as a 360 RRoD).

Though it's not too useful now, most PC laptops have a key combo to rotate through internal/external display combos (usually Function-F4 on an HP I think), so that's how you'd force it to an external display.

Pulling the HDD to get data off shouldn't be hard though.

Would be nice to do that but I was kinda hoping to have a xp machine(after a few fixes) since I don't have a keyboard yet for my desktop yet...and way too many games I've found within the past few days I'm itching to play...

Far as I can see not all dv2000 models had nVidia chips, so it could just be something like the inverter going bad. Could always try it.

If not, laptops of that vintage aren't exactly expensive.

I really can't just sit around and watch TV anymore like I used to. I get bored, or end up using my computer. Only on certain things can I stay focused- really good shows, good movies, etc. Its weird to me.
