Sony's genius for marketing is probably why gamers and non-gamers alike are flocking to the PS4, especially with the Blu-Ray player and it being advertised as a multi-media center - something the Wii-U definitely isn't. That being said, I still wouldn't consider a PS4 console for 8th-gen gaming.dsheinem wrote:Wow. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I kind of doubt it's entirely attributable to current marketing, and probably a lot more to do with Sony's consistent success in the home market ever since they released the PS1. The two best selling home consoles so far are the PS1 and 2, and the PS3 may well give Sony the top three by the time it's done.Retrogamer0001 wrote: Sony's genius for marketing is probably why gamers and non-gamers alike are flocking to the PS4, especially with the Blu-Ray player and it being advertised as a multi-media center - something the Wii-U definitely isn't. It's less a matter of selling people on the thing, and more one of telling their already huge, loyal customer base that there's a new one out.

Makes sense. Of course, it's hard not to blame the (lack of) proper marketing for the Wii-U...isiolia wrote:I kind of doubt it's entirely attributable to current marketing, and probably a lot more to do with Sony's consistent success in the home market ever since they released the PS1. Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I don't see it that way. Wii Us were selling roughly 40k a week and went to 190k. That is a huge leap for a game that was out for 2 days. PS4 went from 120k to 200k. WiiU is a year and a half old where the PS4 is half a year old so has the edge of still being somewhat new. Watchdogs was also a heavily anticipated game and since most gamers have, for the most part chosen, PS4 over XB1 a much larger amount of sales went to the PS4. The game was also available for 4 days. No one has yet contested that the PS4 isn't selling well but plenty have been speculating the WiiU demise and how poorly it has done. Many also doubted or were unsure of the ability of Mario Kart to sell WiiUs, even you. And for atleast 2 days Mario Kart has proven to sell 150k consoles.dsheinem wrote:Wow. Hopefully the trend continues and leads to a successful E3 with this momentum temporarily changing peoples mind about the WiiU. Underdogs minor successes usually makes more interesting news than the champions continuing to be champions, to an extent.

I am being realistic. I am not claiming the WiiU will surpass PS4 sales or surpass the Gamecube. What do I need to let go? I am just claiming it has had a minor success and they could build upon it.ZeroAX wrote:guys....just let it go. the wii u will be lucky to get gamecube numbers.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I do not want to start forum wars, but I guess by now everyone knows that Nintendo is no longer a direct competitor to the PS4/XboxOne. People no longer will be on the Wii U team OR the PS 4 team. People are either XboxOne OR PS4. Wii U is more like an add-on accessory to play specific type of games (Nintendo IPs). If you take that out, I doubt any one will be picking a Wii U. The fact that its selling just as much as a PS4 is very very good news, even for a short time.dsheinem wrote: Wow. @Isiolia
You really think PS3 will surpass Wii's sales? They still have 20m to go, thats a lot. That is 4x whatever the XboxOne sold by now. If Sony could do that, then Sony is officially the king of videogames bar none (I consider Nintendo the king of videogames overall)
@Zero_AX
Do you think it will reach Saturn numbers?

Pure numbers, you're completely right calling Nintendo the king. Their numbers for console + handheld absolutely decimate anyone else's. The DS has sold almost as many units as the PS2, and the Game Boy/Game Boy Color has beaten the PSX, giving them #2 and #3 if you combine handheld and console into the same list.RCBH928 wrote:You really think PS3 will surpass Wii's sales? But I agree, I'll be surprised if the PS3 beats the Wii in the end. Sony's definitely doing much, MUCH better than Xbox (who really seems to be catering purely to the "bro gamer" -- and I don't use that as a perjorative, just the easiest way to describe the Madden/FPS crowd), but Nintendo's not down for the count yet.
Gunning for a licensed NES NTSC-U set, follow the madness and poverty here!

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I wouldn't be - the PS2 sold about 1/3 of its global total sales after the introduction if the PS3 (~50million). The PS3 would only need to sell half of that in the next 4-5 years or so to surpass the Wii, which seems pretty feasible.KalessinDB wrote: But I agree, I'll be surprised if the PS3 beats the Wii in the end.
Remember, Sony produces/sells their consoles for a long time. The Wii is officially out of production.
