It's all about competition. If you don't like to compete it's going to suck. Personally I kinda like the urgency that having to beat resellers to the games at thrift and pawn shops brings.oxymoron wrote:@BRIK

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
This is going to get into tl;dr territory but: I'm a dispatcher at a 911 center. As a dispatcher, we're also trained to take inbound calls from the public and have to do it, on average about once a week. We have people whose sole job is to take the inbound calls. We're trying a new thing at work where when people have trainees, that trainee also has a dedicated "backup trainer" rather than being bounced from person to person if their main trainer is off. Good theory, honestly. Problem being, there's not enough dedicated calltakers on my shift (or really, any of them -- it's a constant annoyance) for 2 people to be dedicated to 1 trainee, so in some cases dispatchers are the "backup trainer" for a calltaking trainee.
No big deal, I figure maybe the primary trainer has a COUPLE days off on the month he's with her, so oh darn maybe I'll be taking inbound calls twice a week instead of once. I'd obviously rather not, but it's certainly not the end of the world.
But then I'm talking to the woman who's the primary trainer, and she tells me that on the 16th she's going out for surgery. Half a month spent training out of title? That's definitely a very big problem in my eyes and I'm honestly not really okay with it, especially because I wasn't even consulted before being assigned (and really, they should have never made the woman a primary trainer in the first place if she's going to be gone half the month). So I complained to the supervisor in charge of training. Now mind you, in 3 years here this is the first time I've complained about anything. I was polite and professional, so was he, but I left his office feeling like he was 100% blowing smoke and nothing was going to come from my complaint. And, by strict policy, I didn't have a leg to stand on (we're a union job) -- I certainly had plenty of customary "This is how things normally work around here" to reference, but that doesn't matter when it comes to real recourse, only official policy does.
Was pleasantly surprised today when I got in and the operations manager (2nd level supervisor) called me into the back to say he HAD in fact talked to her, and they were going to rearrange things a bit -- I would still help out the first 2 weeks when the primary trainer was out, but for those last 2 weeks someone else would take him the first week and then they would just move him to another shift earlier than they intended for the second week. I really did not expect to hear that. The operations manager then reiterated how the whole "backup trainer" idea is a brand new idea and definitely has some kinks to work out (I don't really expect it'll last long -- like I say, good theory but not really able to be done in practice when there's not enough people). She was very polite and good-natured the whole time too.
Made sure to send the supervisor in charge of training a thank you email. It just goes to show, as I often say, that you catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

Smile: I held a bible study today. Yup, you read that right.
And please, let's not turn this into a religious debate, I'm only stating that I had a good time.
My wife and I are on the same page as religion goes, which is helpful. We simply believe in "something" and being good people. So yeah, helping other people be better and kinder people is something I'm all for.

Honestly in my four or so years of collecting, I've never seen it in person. Who knows, maybe it will come the norm more and more in my country and I may in fact start enjoying the thrill of that chase more.BoringSupreez wrote:It's all about competition. Smiled - Medicine is finally not knocking me out when I take it so I can actually get caught up on house work this weekend. That and the rash and illness is going down, soon I get to eat something that is not toast or applesauce...
Ticked - Finally got some help on what might be wrong with my Astro City monitor only to turn it on and have it fizzle...I am at the point where I am going to discharge, pull it out, and mount a 27inch TV I have and supergun in it instead. As much as I love 15khz gaming, I will not let the monitor be the death of me. I now have a monitor with issues, a dead PSU, dead ballast for the light, and a popped speaker. I would put a 27inch LCD in there, but it would have 2 inches of dead space above and below of the monitor, but it could spin.

Awesome. You are going to have a great time. Saying that college is better than high school is like saying that rainbow is better than a punch to the face. I think you will love it.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm going to A&M starting in the fall.
