10 best gaming accomplishments youve achieved 2008

In no particular order:
- Playing twelve player Serious Sam coop with eight other guys, myself
playing four people (splitscreen with all controls bound to
wasd/mouse1).
- Zelda Four Swords with Five tvs
- Together Retro, and the fact it is still going.
- Rediscovering Settlers of Catan and schooling all of my cousins in
it online by taking over sheep production (the fact they haven't
realized that sixes are rolled the most in its rng was icing on the
cake).
- Steel Battalion and all the heartache it brings.
- Getting a second ROB for $5
- Making headway on my MAME Cab, much to the disgust of some purists I know.
- Introducing a new "modern/bro" gamer to old school arcade gaming,
and him loving it.
- Getting to almost the end of the C's in MAME – 3 left.
- Something I will explain more in the future but retrogaming art made
of candy…its still a work in progress

Although I don't care much about achievements, gamerscore, etc. anymore, I did have these accomplishments:
Getting all achievements in Alien Hominid(and I did the last boss one legit, without two players)
Getting 10k gamerpoints

I also dove into the portable gaming scene this year and successfully hacked my PSP. Just figuring out how to get many of those damn emulators to work is an accomplishment in my opinion. I'm proud to now have TWO modified systems, with the other being my Saturn which plays backups.

Finished Contra:Shattered Soldier, Castle Crashers, Mass Effect, Braid, The Darkness, Bioshock, Final Fantasy Tactics:War of the Lions, Tomb Raider Anniversary and who knows what else. I've kind of lost track.

I think my only "hardcore" accomplishment this year was finished Stranglehold on Hard Boiled difficulty. Though I did S rank a few stages in Contra:Shattered Soldier and made some progress on Castle Crasher's Insane mode.

Not gaming related, but happy that I finally cancelled my cable. With sites like Hulu around these days, I don't know why the hell I should pay for tv anymore.

I think the two things I was happiest about this year as a gamer was getting a PSP and playing Mass Effect, which was such a great game

This year was big for me because i finally got around to sifting through the massive amounts of PS2 games to find roughly 20+ that I really enjoy. I'd always been more of a sega/nintendo person, especially saturn/dreamcast/gamecube, but it was nice to build a new collection of games. I definitely don't have 10 accomplishments to list but i'm much improved on shmups and was happy to repeatedly 1cc Ikaruga on easy mode.

No so sure about 10 best, but THE best was having (for a time) the fastest lap on Snowboard Cross on Mario Kart Wii in Europe. Still in the top 10 I believe.

1) Reduced temper tantrums and throwing controller down to only once a week

2) Built a wall of Mountain Dew cans with a barracade of cigarette packs in my living room in which I can reenact my favourite battles from Shining Force 2.

3) Scored Super Ultra Top Banana in Space Giraffe

4) converted my entire genny midi music collection into fun ring tones (funny thing, my friend uses Sub-terrania as his... he works at a game company and has yet to meet anyone there who knows what it is... I wheep)

5) Kicked everyone's ass at a party at Guitar Hero 3 despite drinking a 5th of Vodka and doing keg stands all night... by the end I was playing while laying on the floor and giggling in fits.

6) ^^ Won free bar tabs at the local club for beating everyone's ass at Guitar Hero 2 on "arcade night"

7) convinced the dj at said club to let me play Rez on the projector with the sound track blasting

Successfully fend off the psycho Adny who was poking and prodding me while I played Soul Calibur against Edd

9) learned to tolerate Smash Bros enough to play it on occasion

10) managed not to play Fallout 3 so as not to ever be disapointed with my life.

figuring out that i don't have to have every game ever to be a happy and content gamer and only playing the games that i enjoy for the time frames that i enjoy.

getting a ton of free games and systems throughout the year. (wii, 360, psp, dreamcast, etc)

beginning work on my slimline dvd case saturn library.

hooking a ton of friends up with invites to underground gamer and bitgamer and them being really into it.

recently talking with a friend about getting a sonic tattoo done. probably will be in this list next year.



that's really it for me, this wasn't a big gaming year :/

-Playing and finishing the Rock Band 2 endless setlist with a few of my best friends (full band on Expert), ending at 2:30 AM, 6 1/2 hours before one of my finals.
-Beating FF3/6 (for SNES).
-Beating Super Mario RPG.
-Getting some of the classic SNES games that defined my childhood (Super Mario Kart, LoZ: LttP, etc.) again.

That's about all I did.
