SOTN remains my favorite "metroidvania" game, but all of them ar at least pretty good. (The challenge is also a bit more even in the later installments.) You should try all of them at some point.

If you have not already, be sure to play the remake, Metroid: Zero Mission (GBA). I am replaying it at my daughter's behest - after trekking through Super Metroid recently, she thinks that Samus Aran is basically the best ever - and despite the fact it is very different from the NES original, it is an excellent, excellent game.

alienjesus wrote:What racer are you using? If it's A.Stewart I recommend going for a custom set-up with max speed. That's what I used to best the game - you're probably screwed if you fall off anyway, so higher acceleration isn't so useful.
I used Stewart for Normal and Hard, for Expert I've been switching between her and Hayami. I've been using custom with max speed on both of them, with different tweaks for the other stats.

I do about as well with either character. Just have to overcome the game's bullshit factor.

So Zero Mission is the remake and Fusion is the original title for the GBA? I'm always getting them mixed up.

Prices are easy to remember: both going for $20 and up :(

Yep. Technically, Zero Mission also includes a port of the original, but you have to beat the game to unlock it.

They're also both worth getting either way.

Agreed. I paid more for my copies when I purchased them new a decade ago. They are also fairly common games; so, if price is a concern to you, I am certain that, with a little hunting, you can get each one for less than $20.

1. Metroid Prime - GC
2. Resident Evil 2 - PS1
3. Earthbound - SNES
4. Crash Bandicoot - PS1 - Complete
5. X-men Vs. Street Fighter - Saturn - Complete
6. Wonder Boy in Monster World - Genesis
7. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - PS1
8. Wave Race 64 - N64 - Complete
9. Ico - PS2
10.Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - SNES

FINALLY! Wave Race is finished!

I wearily sat down to play tonight, picked Stewart, and somehow it all came together and I just nailed it. It felt so right. By the time I got to the final race, I'd already qualified (with 38 points) so naturally I fucked up the final race royally and finished it in 4th. It wasn't intentional, I really did try and it didn't happen (managed to get knocked off my machine by grazing a bouy), still funny.

But who gives a flying rat's ass, I still took first overall with 39 points, and that rat bastard David Mariner took second with a measly 30. Suck on that, jackass!

My positions for each course:

1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 3, 1, 4

I can't add anything that alienjesus didn't already cover in his discussion about the game earlier.

I can say that the game is quite fun, and exhilarating when you're hitting your lines properly and doing well. Its also ridiculously frustrating sometimes.

Anyway, its done. Time to move on.

I played a bit of Yoshi's Island the other day and cleared the first world. I intend to make more progress tonight.

Huzzah! Your results were bit more consistent than mine, but I think our points were basically the same (I got 1,1,1,4,1,1,4,4).
