Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I'd like to see a game that uses massive draw distances to simulate real sniping (complete with needing to understand ballistics). Unfortunately, that paints a massive target for every watchdog group to use the word "murder simulator".dsheinem wrote:Which = salespepharytheworm wrote: So, basically no new ideas, but perceived new ideas because of greater graphical capabilities.

No it paints a massive target for whiny skill-less gamers who "own at cod" but can't play this "stupid broken game".MrPopo wrote: I'd like to see a game that uses massive draw distances to simulate real sniping (complete with needing to understand ballistics). though to be honest realistic weapon handling just wouldn't be fun for everyone

I agree, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Not everything should be fun for everyone, and there should be games that cater to the various interests out there.ZeroAX wrote:though to be honest realistic weapon handling just wouldn't be fun for everyone

oh I completely agree. I know I won't enjoy realistic shooting, but there's probably a VERY strong niche for that.MrPopo wrote:I agree, but I don't see that as a bad thing. Exactly.CavZee wrote:"Nintendo gonna Nintendo" for better AND for worse.
Spoilers, they aren't going anywhere.
If they were about to go under, they could double up the Pokemon schedule by releasing 4 games at once and everyone would buy them and the handhelds will start printing literal gold bricks.
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I'd hope not, that's one series it feels like they haven't played it fully safe with lately. There's generally something different and supposedly "better' with every pokemon entry and it keeps it interesting. The biggest issue they have is that they are playing it safe with mario, and donkey kong and not really even utilizing starfox as much as they could to draw some more people in. They could honestly do some things to really experiment and try to draw some people back. Or even come up with a new IP to experiment with. Of course I still really want to see nintendo finally get someone to make a spiritual sequel to dk64...(but that's a dream that will never come true it seems)

Though as far as huge draw distances go, the new versions are probably a better choice...MrPopo wrote:I'd like to see a game that uses massive draw distances to simulate real sniping (complete with needing to understand ballistics). Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I am sorry, the other 2 companies got some new IPs and they did take a risk. L.A. Noir , Gears of War, Uncharted, Last of Us, Demon's Soul...etc all new IPs that show that there was risk taking in making new different games with different formulas. They didn't do "The New Crash Bandicoot Levels" or "Halo 1 HD remake" and expect it to be a system seller. There were some new IPs going on for the Wii like MadWorld and The Conduit but how successful was that?AppleQueso wrote:Eh, maybe, but even if that's the case it makes Nintendo's adherence to that formula even more puzzling, because they haven't exactly followed the rest of the industry in anything else they've been doing.CavZee wrote:Couldn't the same be said about most of the industry? The AAA market is stagnating and budgets are getting astronomical so risk taking and new ideas arent going to be as prevalent as in the many years past. The gaming industry is so focused and built around mega franchises and sequels more so than even Hollywood.AppleQueso wrote:
Doesn't help that Nintendo own franchises have been growing rather sterile as they've started really milking that nostalgia well dry. They still make high quality software, but it's hard to explain to someone why they should pick up the newest installments in these various franchises when all you can say is that "it's still really good."
It all feels very "safe," which wouldn't be THAT huge a problem if not for the fact that thanks to these sales slumps, we don't really have very much in the way of interesting 3rd party games to pick up the slack.

But the "Wii U has no games" argument was, equally, barely true at launch, nor is it true now.dsheinem wrote: The "PS4 and Xbox One have no games" argument was barely true at launch, nor is it true six months later.
