In a way, it's how PC gaming has been since ever. 'cept there, when you buy a new video card or build a new rig, all your content comes to the new machine.
I think that's really where they're missing the boat. XBL and PSN should be more integrated between the two generations. PS3/PS4 and 360/One cross-buy should be standard (if buying digital at least), save data should sync, etc.

Yeah, I need to get on that. Even though FC3 didn't blow me away, I'm still want to try out Blood Dragon.TSTR wrote:I haven't played FC3 myself, but Blood Dragon was all kinds of awesome.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Blood Dragon was great fun and frankly a much better game than regular FC3 in that it didn't outstay its welcome.
Far Cry 3 had an awful story and wasted the few good characters it had, was overly repetitive, and ended up lasting far too long.
Then again I'm the guy who loved Far Cry 2 so take that for what you will.

Older. Not wiser.

The problem for the digital services is the underlying hardware is going a major architectural change that means the old binaries don't run on the new platform. When you install a new video card/update your CPU your PC is basically the same from the perspective of the programs; things just run faster so you don't drop frames anymore. There's a ton of new features that the old programs don't take advantage of, but that's ok since that's the purpose of the new programs.isiolia wrote:In a way, it's how PC gaming has been since ever. True, but digital distribution already has cross-buy for select titles. Sony does it for some PS3 and Vita games. Steam has Steam Play. Some GOG games are packaged up for Mac. Etc.MrPopo wrote: The problem for the digital services is the underlying hardware is going a major architectural change that means the old binaries don't run on the new platform.
Plenty of games already sync save data to the cloud.
I'm not saying I'd expect, say, every PS3 game to port over. More that if there is a PS3 and a PS4 version being released, that buying that game once on PSN means you get both versions, and they can both share cloud-synced save data.

"Okay Football" wouldn't sell, but Sega's "Great Football" is just okay.

The "Great" series of games are so inappropriately titled. They're all mediocre or best. Some are awful.Luke wrote:"Okay Football" wouldn't sell, but Sega's "Great Football" is just okay.

I personally think the cross buy thing for the Vita is a way to get people to buy the Vita. Cross buy is basically like the old Blu Ray + DVD pack; you get two copies for the price of one and it helps to get people interested in the platform they're trying to push (Vita/Blu ray). Sony doesn't need a gimmick like that to get people to buy the next gen console. The save sync just requires you to ensure that the data structure for the saves looks the same on both releases (not hard, especially if you did your development properly and left that in the common part of the codebase) and then you just leverage the existing cloud backup.isiolia wrote:True, but digital distribution already has cross-buy for select titles. Maybe not, but it'd be a reason to buy digitally on PSN or XBL without there being a massive sale. Unless they're assuming people will be rebuying a lot of games, there's little logical reason not to do it.MrPopo wrote:Sony doesn't need a gimmick like that to get people to buy the next gen console.
