PC gamers remember Microsoft's "renewed commitment to gaming" a while back, around the time they developed Windows LIVE. So I wouldn't be too hopeful about this announcement.

I see their "renewed commitment to PC gaming" as being kind of like a fat guy/gal trying a new diet plan. "THIS TIME I'M GOING TO LOSE THAT WEIGHT!" Good on them that they keep trying, but I wouldn't hold your breath until you see the results.

Xbox One will come without Kinect later this year, Microsoft has announced. It will cost $399 USD on June 9. In Europe, that's £349 and 399 Euros.

This brings Xbox One's price to parity with PlayStation 4. This new Xbox One price and packaging comes as a result of user feedback. Microsoft is responding directly to those who want nothing more from their Xbox than using the machine with a controller. Kinect will be sold as a separate accessory for those who wish to adopt motion and voice controls in the future.
I think everyone saw this coming.

Yet more proof that early adoption of new consoles is a bad idea...

Unless you wanted a Kinect and were willing to pay $100 for it.

I would certainly rather have that option rather than have it forced on me if I wanted an X1...

I was just responding to the blanket statement that all early adopters were screwed if you bought the XB1 early. You weren't if you wanted a Kinect and it was worth $100 to you.

Yeah, but who wants a Kinect? :D

I'm just joking...kinda. My point is, things seem to change so rapidly during the early phases of a console's release, usually for the better, that is just seems like a bad idea to buy early. You can go all the way back to the PS1 with the melting of the plastic components to see examples of this. Hell, even the Wii-U had a price cut. I think this is a great move for Microsoft and for potential customers.

All of it?

They're removing the XBL Gold paywall for most apps sometime in the next few months apparently.
