They're a lot easier to deal with in SMB3. I did NOT like them in the original SMB.

Super Mario Bros. 3 can be tough, due to the fact that you can't repeat levels. But the game is also generous about letting you stock up on power-ups.

It's best to approach those (optional unless they're in your way) Hammer Bros. mini-levels with a fire Mario, leaf Mario, or at least big Mario.

But yeah, I agree with ExedExes... They're much worse in Mario 1, and the Lost Levels for that matter. They seem to move much more erratically.

Welcome to my world sload. Those hammer bros and my poor timing is probably the biggest reason I haven't played it through before. Exactly why I'm glad I'm playing the deluxe version of smb....

ok, so now I'm on the fence about possibly starting a list. :?

I suppose I could go thru everyone else's lists and try to overlap w/ what others are playing. Although I wouldn't start my list until June, as I think of Summer as June, July, August.

Well the only reason I've started mine is because school is out(I'm in college) so that means it's summer for me.

SMB: made it to the end of the level(finally) and ran out of time right as I was jumping for the flag pole

here's some I'm considering...

Aliens Versus Predator
Assassins Creed
Batman Arkham Asylum
Fallout
Final Fantasy III or...
Final Fantasy VIII
Halo
Left 4 Dead
Loom
Mega Man 8
Puzzle Quest
Tomb Raider Anniversary
Wonder Boy In Monster World

...obviously that's more than 10. Just brainstorming. Don't love the idea of all of them. So def open to widdling some off and adding some others I hadn't considered. I'd really like variety in genres and release dates. Also, I'd prefer FF III because I did I and II (kind of) last year, so like going chronologically, but I see a few of you playing VIII and I suppose it's more of a classic. Open to suggestions for sure.

That's a good list, but I think you're in for a visit from Dr Dsh.

My thoughts are that the first Assassin's Creed is not a classic but the sequel is/will be.
And is that the PC Alien Vs Predator or the Jaguar version?

TBH, Assassin's Creek would prob be the first I axed unless urged otherwise.

Aliens Versus Predator is the 1999 PC game.

...awaiting Doctor Dish.

WALL OF SHAME v2: Existing picks you boffoonzes made that can't/shouldn't reasonably be considered classics:

-Cybernator (still not buying this, even if it was once in an EGM list)
-Starfox Adventures (just b/c a series is considered a classic doesn't mean all entries are. this one, by overwhelming consensus, sucks)
-The flinstones: rescue of dino and hoppy (old + rare ≠ classic)
-bugs birthday blowout (this one is a stretch - at best a "cult classic")
-Yugioh Double Pack (No, sorry)
-Quest for Camelot (another game that is pretty shitty by almost all standards)
-Jumping Flash! 2 (the first one could tenuously be included on a list like this for its significance as an early 3d platformer, but I have a hard time considering either one a classic in any sense of the word)
-Nightmare on Elm Street (see Bugs's game above)
-Omega Boost (a great game, but a really obscure one and not even something with cult status)
-Illbleed (same comment as Omega Boost)
-Landstalker (your impulse said no: you should have stuck with it)
-Silent Hill 3 (no SH games after 2 are worth considering a classic, nor are they very good)
-Kirby 64 (see "Star Fox Adventures" above)

-Zillion II (the first one could maybe count, this one not so much - even if it is better…both suck, by the way  )
-Mary Kate and Ashley.. (lol)
-Uncharted, Bayonetta, Uncharted 2, Lego Star Wars games, COD4, Dragon Age, Dark Souls, etc. (too new, unless we're gonna extend this to "modern classics" - and even then some will still not be good picks)

*new entries*
-Frogger 2: Swampy's Revenge (just because noise likes something, that doesn't make it a classic)
-The Death and Return of Superman (is this even considered a great game amongst comic book game fans? Because it certainly isn't even in the top 25% of best games in the Genesis library)
-Darkwing Duck (unless you buy the argument that Capcom+Disney always equals classic, I don't see this one approaching the heights of Duck Tales or Chip N' Dale - it is just a much more mediocre title)
-Valis (middling reviews, HG101 says "decent at best")

Fix those shit lists so that I can take your game off of this one!

If you did take something off and I missed it, let me know!

Noise, I think your list is good with the exception of Batman and AC, unless you are cool with the "modern classics" thing. :x

EVERYONE NEEDS TO FINISH FINAL FANTASY II AND YS II

ALL YOU DUDES STARTED THEM AND THEN ABANDONED THEM

COME ON SONS

Oh, and the Valis games are most definitely classic action-platformers. I almost included one on my list, but I've played them before and I'm terrible at them.
