That might work against you. If you forget the task(s) at hand, you could easily be left clueless. I know you are sharp as a tack, but we all have those "Wait. Whaddamdoin' here again?" Moments.

I play the snes port/version and have loved the game since day one. It really is an experience, and the "reality tv game" level is very Blade Runner-esque. You'll dig it.

You say that, but I doubt it. My guess is there are a lot of classics in genres or on systems you've neglected...
There are a ton of classic PC games I have not completed, but - sadly - I don't like playing games on my PC. I really need to find a way to emulate them on a console...

I keep mentioning these Electronic Gaming Monthly lists because it is a long-standing goal of mine to play through every game on each of the lists the magazine published in issues 100, 150, and 200. I am closing in on that goal, and a few years before joining these forums, I made a point to play through every game in my classic console collections. As a result, there are maybe 30 or so "undisputed classics" of console video gaming - such as Jumping Flash! 2 - that I have not yet completed.

Thanks! I am going to play it exclusively, however, and hopefully, that fact will help me get through it. (If not, I may be reaching out to you for help!)

Ok, a few things:

First, Shanghai is a classic of the Mahjong video game genre.

Second, Silent Hill 3 is a classic of the survival horror genre. It is the official end point of the main Silent Hill story arc(Silent Hill 0rigins, Silent Hill, Silent Hill 3 is the official arc. All other games are either spin-offs or reimaginings). SH3 is also the final "traditional" survival horror developed by Konami's Team Silent. SH4 was not traditional, and all other SH games were developed by western companies. SH3 sold over 300,000 copies within six months of its release and topped sales charts in Japan upon release. It was re-released for the next generation along with SH2, which has generally overshadowed it(but this also happens with series like Resident Evil, where RE2 overshadows RE1 nowadays). The game has been critically lauded and widely praised by fans of the genre and series, even serving as the basis for the second film in the series. It is also an example of a capable and not overtly sexualized female protagonist in video games.

Moving onto my list, I can understand the complaint about Kirby 64 from Ds. It is a classic series, but Kirby 64 is a "lesser" game in the series(not meaning it is bad, but it is not really discussed), and my primary interest in it was from not having played it after having already spent time with the bigger games like Kirby's Dreamland, Kirby's Adventure, and Kirby Super Star.

Instead I will bump up Thief(via Thief Gold). I am adding MDK to my list of alternates.

1. Daikatana
2. Thief
3. Super Mario 2: The Lost Levels
4. Eye of the Beholder
5. Final Fantasy V

Alternates:

6. Battletoads in Battlemaniacs
7. Brave Fencer Musashi
8. Dragonsphere
9. Silent Hill
10. MDK

I know! That sounds so slick! I have two CD books full of classic PC games, and assuming Hyperkin can deliver on this system, I will definitely be getting one.

Wonder Boy down already. The last two bosses were infuriating, one for being a constant barrage of bullshit from every angle another and the other combining a moving floor with a buzzsaw and the sketchy jump controls. You essentially need all the heart containers and best armour for them.

Jammy bosses aside I enjoyed this game a lot. It occupies a weird place in the series having the exploration elements of Dragon's Trap and the emphasis on platforming from Monster World IV, but being inferior in both aspects to those games. That said, when those games are among the very best on their systems, Monster World still stands out as superior to many of its contemporaries.

Which boss was the second last one? It's been a while since I've played.

Have you played all the others in the series? Did you notice how Monster World is absolutely PACKED with references to them? Stuff like the opening area being right out of Monster Land (as well as the infamous moving staircase blocks in the final dungeon), one of the bosses losing his head like in the original Wonder Boy and the snowman boss playing on a sidescrolling stage like Monster Lair?

I also prefered Dragon's Trap and Monster World IV to WB in MW, and although I think Monster World is objectively better than Monster Land, I have more of a soft spot for that one. All the games in the Monster World series are awesome though.
