Now that I think of it, the type of house alarm system we have requires a land line phone to work.
Are you old fashioned, or is it that there's no cell phone reception out by you because you live a hermit-like existence in the boonies of Maine?

I wish I could have that again. We don't have a land line phone anymore, only an internet phone (with wireless phones hooked up) and cell phones. Now I can't use any dial up internet for my Dreamcast *sob*

Strangely, I feel that Noise having a land line to play PSO on his DreamCast through dial-up internet service is more "old fashioned" than having a land line for a rotary phone (which is just cool and which my wife and I have considered doing on several occasions).

I havent had a land line in over a decade. It is basically a telemarketer answering phone. My home alarm has a wireless device.

lol my cell reception is fine.

But when other Mainers call me (like my parents) their reception is awful. So the land line is helpful for that.

The sound of an actual phone ringing is great. Adds pop to one of our guest rooms too.

The "do not call list" is largely effective. We get less than 12-15 calls a year. I have no plans on a cell phone.

Having no cell phone would be rough for things like car breakdowns and other various emergencies.

Though I have no interest in ever getting a smartphone. That said, when this phone eventually bites the dust a smartphone might be my only option.

I thought that too, until I got one. Internet in your pocket is kinda amazing.
