I think Child of Eden was my GOTY for whatever year it was released. With the Kinect, it's an unforgettable experience.

That makes it Luke's GOTY 2011.

I'd argue that it was the most video gamey game of 2011 then.

Finished the most recent Tomb Raider a little while back. It was fun, but I'm glad that I only spent $5 or so on it. =)

Games Beaten: 2013 2012 2011 2010

Slow going of late on the Game Beating front.

Seeing the news about the Borderlands Pre-Sequel reminded me that I needed to go back and finish the first Borderlands, a game I'd only played about half way through back when it was newer. However, despite my PC handling almost 90 hours of Borderlands 2 time with no graphics hiccups of note, the original was giving me problems that I didn't recall experiencing on the same rig years ago. I used a piece of software (WillowTree) to convert the save file to PS3 format and finished it off on the PS3 (where I had my free copy from PS+ sitting).

It isn't as good as the second game by any stretch, but it still offers that "just one more mission" hook that makes me keep coming back to the series and playing it for long stretches of time. I found the story/characters to be a lot less interesting than the game suggested they could be in the first half (from what I recall), but the sequel easily fixed any and all qualms I had with the original - including the story.

So what did you find was better in the second Borderlands vs. the first game? Thinking of playing these games but had a terrible problem with motion sickness on the first and would like to know if part 2 was so much better, is it worth playing through?

Everything?

The writing, the environments, the graphics, the classes, the leveling systems, the challenge, the interfaces, etc. Borderlands 2 would probably be in my top five games from the previous gen, and I'd say it is well worth trying unless for some reason you completely hated the first one.

First one did not seem to hold anything special but if the second one is that much better I will give it a shot. I got that along with a physical copy of some DLC. I always wondered why people went on about it so much. I just assumed that 2 was just more of the first game. That is what I get for assuming eh? :D

1. Dead Pixels (PC) - Run n' Gun
2. Magical Drop V (PC) - Puzzle
3. Reaching Out (Android) - Visual Novel
4. Nanolife (Android) - Visual Novel
5. Darius Burst (PSP) - Shmup
6. Ridge Racer 2 (PSP) - Racing
7. Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower (PSP) - Fighting
8. Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (Genesis) - Fighting
9. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike Online Edition (PS3) - Fighting
10. Super Mario Bros. (NES) - Platformer
11. Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2) - RPG

Thoughts:
Wow. Hell of a game. Dumped about 105 hours into this one, and I'll probably do the NG+ at some point, too. I got the normal ending, then went back and did the true ending (which was definitely worth it and provided a very fun dungeon). Still have a handful of S. Links to do, some more Personas to fuse, plus the extra battles with Margaret and The Reaper. I'm actually more excited to run a NG+ on this than I am P3, which I also plan to do. (And I still need to finish The Answer.)

I can't help but compare it to P3, since that's what got me started on these games. Part of me likes the thematic darkness that P3 employs over the comparatively more cheerful P4, but there are so many upgrades that P4 has as a game that I think it's the better of the two.

The biggest is the battle system; direct command of your team is much, much appreciated. I didn't play P3P, but rather the FES version—so I certainly got to experience the whole "NO MITSURU NOT TENTARAFOO FFFFFUUUUUU" thing first-hand. Other little technical things are improved as well, like the ability to fullscreen the dungeon map, the use of a quick-travel button while out exploring Inaba, and the function to view a specific skill's effect in-menu. I also feel like P4 is the more aesthetically pleasing game to look at; it's so much more colorful and vivid that P3's sometimes drab design.

I could probably talk about this game for hours, so I'll just stop here. I will say that now I'm really interested in what P4G has to offer. Definitely gives me more reason to want a Vita.

Oh, and Naoto is best girl. 8)
