If you are referring to the cost of a cab for MVS collecting, you can easily get an MVS cab for the same or cheaper than an AES. I got my big red for 200, the board was shot, got a replacement board for 80, and sold the bad one for 40. But I agree, once you have a cab (or CMVS) the cost of games is much easier to handle.

I once heard someone over at Neo Geo say that MVS was the "poor mans" way of collecting Neo Geo, but I dont get how you can put down the people that are just going for the most authentic experience? Some people really need to justify their crazily priced AES carts I guess.

unless you get into the crazy bastards who collect only full kit MVS, paying hundreds of dollars more than the cost bare cart for a plain cardboard box a bit of paper and some bubble wrap

Also I dunno where you are from but here in the midwest MVS cabs are generally $400-$500 depending on condition under $400 and they generally need ALOT of work.

Im from Sacramento CA, and while there are plenty of cabs that pop up for like 400+ they stay listed for months on end. Its not uncommon to scoop up an MVS for 200-300 (like I did) if you are patient and ready to pounce on a listing as soon as it pops up (also what I did)

ahh California that explains it haha! the land of milk and honey... and candy cabs

reason cabs are so cheap in Cali is they get shipped by freighter directly from JP (probably not US cabs they are cheap probably due to the massive population of LA and people having little room in their apartments so when they need to get more space first thing to go is the cab and priced to move. Here in the midwest cabs usually come from the west, sometimes from the east but either way the shipping get tacked onto the cab so cabs here are often $200+ more than you lucky bastards on the coast usually more.

Well, the games play the same essentially - AES conversions are made with MVS chips (usually), so I don't know that either is more authentic than the other. If one were to put an AES in a big red, the experience in gameplay would be the same really.

I don't think calling it the "poor mans" way of collecting is a knock necessarily. I mean, Super Nintendo is considered expensive nowadays, but it's subjective really. If you're looking at Demon's Crest for $90, you're thinking, "hmm, it's a bit pricey, should I or shouldn't I...hmmm." If you're looking at Last Resort at $90, you're thinking, "Ok, this thread was started 3 minutes ago, hopefully I can be first to pm." Nope, sold. So, put into context, I don't think it's a knock at all.

That said, with AES collecting, you are getting a clean cart (as opposed to the usual nicked / stickered / scuffed MVS cart). A shiny label with artwork (as opposed to a peeling spine label, often not original or with serials scratched out). A nice manual and the best case of any home console system. So yeah, you're paying more, but you are getting more to, and physical stuff / shelf candy is important to a lot of people.

With the exception of a few very rares, the prices aren't that different in many cases. Once you add in the cost of shockbox, an insert, and a mini marquee, MVS collecting can get nearly as expensive as AES collecting.

I totally get the collecting aspect of AES, but if you actually want to play the games, MVS is the way to go. I wouldnt want to have AES games never touch the console because you dont want to get the insertion marks on the cart.

The context of the post I was referring to was most definitely intended as a knock against MVS collectors. It was a while ago, so I probably cant dig it up but I remember that post for sure.

I've never read or heard of concerns about insertion marks on any game under $500, so again, you're talking about a very small segment of the AES library and collectors, >10%.

As for the comment, it may have been serious, but I frequent neo forums often and AES collectors get far more criticism than MVS collectors on that forum. There are considerably more MVS collectors than AES collectors on that forum. Point of fact, the uber-rare collectors are often (daily) ridiculed for their habits anytime they post in FS or WTB threads. They are called aesholes, or even worse, French.

mmmkay, 7 hrs into Card Fighters now. Got 3 coins. Tried to enter the Resident Evil Tournament (against friggin' zombies!) but the cards the zombie had were just too much for me. Decided to go enter the NeoGeo tournie instead, and was doing alright but just not good enough.

Now here's the embarrassing thing I realized... I don't know anything about arranging my deck of cards. So I'm pretty sure that's why even though I've been winning all these random cards from dudes, I never seem lucky enough to end up w/ it in my hand. Huh? Guess it's time to re-RTFM.
