Do all guitar game controllers work with all guitar games?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Do all guitar game controllers work with all guitar games?

Post by Scooter »

In other words, will a Guitar Hero controller sold by Activision work with Rock Band games? Of course the GH and RB publishers aren't going to tell you their guitar controller will work with a competitors game and for all I know they build something into the controller or the game that prevents playing competitors' games.

The reason I ask is that I don't currently have any guitar games but I'm thinking of getting GH Aerosmith packed with a guitar yet Harmonix will be releasing a new game in Q4 of 2009 based on the Beatles and I absolutely will want to get that game but I sure don't want to have to buy another guitar controller at that time just to play the new game.

Totally matters what system we're talking about. However, generally the GH III and I believe Aerosmith stuff isn't compatible with the RB stuff. I do also believe this has changed with World Tour and RB2 and now more stuff is compatible, specifically the guitar controllers.

Specifically, this is for PS2. But now that I think about it, I doubt that a game slated for a Q4 2009 release will be released in PS2 format anyway. I'd suspect by then I'll have to buy a modern system (PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii) to be able to play the upcoming Beatles game.
