yeah that's what it seems like. Tutorial confused me, but just jumping in I started figuring stuff out. One thing I don't get is at one point an enemy was throwing down 2 Attackers at the same time. And I don't mean that they were paired up to attack 1 of my cards. I mean each of his 2 attackers were attacking a different one of my cards. How the heck?Betagam7 wrote:My advice would be skip the tutorial, it's too long winded and seems too complex. It put me off the first time I tried it. That's just a regular attack. Say you have three cards all free to have a turn, you can place each of those cards down and each one will need to be countered by a different card from your opponent. So if you have three cards and your opponent has two cards, you are guaranteed to score a hit on his actual character.noiseredux wrote:yeah that's what it seems like. The disadvantage of this attack is that any countered cards don't hit your opponent even if they survive the counter and defeat the opponents card.
Using SP (Soul Points) you can choose to team up your cards and combine 2 or 3 cards together. This has its own advantage as it means you can build up a really high total and it can only be countered by one opponent card, whatever HP your card stack has left after the counter will hit your opponent.
The game has a lot of tactical possibilities with this. Sometimes it can be better to do single attacks, sometimes team attacks, depending on how many cards your opponent has in his hand. It can even be advantageous to not counter, allowing you to use more cards on your next go and regain an advantage.
You can also power up certain cards in the same go by having a card that they work with. For example, Ryu can be used with Ken to add +300 to his health.
Then their are all the individual powers of the different cards. learning when to use these can be a key in later battles. For example their are cards who are powerful with like 800 health but who have a special ability that doubles their health if they enter the battle at a certain time. It's a learning process but a fun one. The game has incredible depth!

really? I thought when I hit ATTACK, I then had to pick which one of my cards was attacking?Betagam7 wrote: That's just a regular attack. It was late, and I was tired, haha. I'll have to pay better attention to it tonight.

It's confusing the first time but it becomes deceptively simple. I've no idea how people playing in Japanese as a foreign language figured it all out!noiseredux wrote:really? You can select as many cards as you have available that turn to attack. When you select your second card (or even third) card then if you have enough SP built up the game will ask you if you want to combine them for one super attack (which can only be countered by one card and which will damage your opponent if it beats it) or if you just want to have each card attack individually.
There will be situations near the end of a battle where it will be advantageous to do one rather than the other.
Re: Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
My Pacman still hasn't turned up but here's the boxed games I've taken delivery of so far this week:

I agree with you Noiseredux that the fighting game is definitely called:
Match of the Millenium: SNK vs Capcom
Also just a little point of note that I found interesting, from reading the instructions it seems that they are referring to the SF2 bosses by their Japanese names. haven't yet seen if that's the case in the game or not.
On another note: NGPC games have some of the most detailed manuals I've ever seen. At least these PAL versions do. Lovely little things.

you're not kidding, dood. The manual for Card Fighters is 32 pages, and packed. It's like a mini strategy guide.Betagam7 wrote:On another note: NGPC games have some of the most detailed manuals I've ever seen. At least these PAL versions do. Lovely little things.

I don't have the manual for that one but I've noticed that boxed games I do collect for PAL often have three or four manuals because they are so detailed they need to produce one for each country instead of sticking everything in one.noiseredux wrote:you're not kidding, dood. I learned a lot from reading my Neo Geo cup manual and it transformed the game from being average to being quite a lot of fun. For example I found out that to do a sprint you have to flick the stick backwards then forwards in succession and I don't think I'd ever have stumbled on that otherwise. It's made me more interested in collecting boxed games as I do love me a good detailed manual. It reminds me of being a kid and reading the manual to soak up my excitement for playing the game while on the bus home from the store!
I beat the tourny mode of Match of the Millenium tonight with Ken but I can see that there's a lot in this game left to do and it'll easily take years to properly complete it. The inclusion of mini games really surprised me and that's another thing I love about NGPC games, they all seem to go that extra mark to include little collectables and things that give you an extra reason to play.

Re: Let's talk about your NEO GEO collecting + PRICE GUIDES
yeah I touched on that on my recent Sonic Pocket Adventure write-up as well. The majority of NGPC games seem to offer multiple modes, mini-games, and extra content beyond the 'main game.' Which is awesome, and really gives the library a lot of replayability.
Thanks for the hints on CFC by the way, I put another hour or so into it last night. What a great way to lose time!

From reading the instruction manual for Match of the Millenium it seems that you can connect it with cardfighters clash to download "something that will make you smile".noiseredux wrote:yeah I touched on that on my recent Sonic Pocket Adventure write-up as well. I've no idea what this is but at this rate I may have to buy another NGPC to try it! I've also heard that playing the game on a regular NGP unlocks different cut scenes! Gah!
My Pacman arrived today along with the little red crossring. Mildly disappointing that Pacman doesn't save Hi-Scores. That seems like a missed opportunity for such a vanilla port.
Managed to find Bio Motor Unitron (PAL) boxed and complete online for £14.99, that should be here soon and I guess that will be my limit for the time being. Ten games is enough to be beavering away with over the next few months I think.
