What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

Check this out flex:
I had this problem, and it was because the file Windows uses to store the Start Screen data was corrupt.

The file is C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\appsFolder.itemdata-ms. Append .bak to the end of the file, then log off and back on and Windows will recreate the Start Screen (from the default profile) and you will be able to customize it once again.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

My new laptop with 8.1 is much cleaner than the old Vista desktop I had. I put only frequently used stuff in specific folders on the desktop as well as pin frequently used items on the taskbar. I don't ever have to see the tiles and get to things a lot quicker.

Nothing. I don't know I still have half of my apps on the start screen but the ones that I would be using daily are gone. I'm going to guess that since yesterday was Tuesday there was an update that removed them.

Do you have another Windows 8.1 device? There might be a tile syncing thing going on between the two.

Not to be a jerk to you guys, but that's kind of your own faults (as well as stupid company installer practices) if you have a disaster on the desktop. If you install something and immediately remove the icon the program insisted on stuffing on the desktop and when make sure the one on the start menu is somewhere sensible like Programs>Games>Starcraft II instead of the usual dumb location like Programs>Electronic Arts>Treyarch>Call of Duty>Call of Duty 5 The Final Frontier>Multiplayer>Call of Duty 5 then you can have things easy to find instead of a jumble on the desktop. If you're customizing the Windows 8 Start Screen, it's just like keeping the old Start Menu in order despite stupidity from publishers.

The desktop can only be cluttered if you let it. :P

Stupid mobile site. I just reported your post instead of replying to it. But yea I have nothing that would sync with it at all. I can find my programs in my C drive and can pin them to the start bar but I can't pin them to the start screen. Which is why I think it has to do with a windows update.

Selling on Amazon makes me furious.

Price: $36.00
Shipping: $7.98
Amazon fees: -$10.08
Your earnings: $33.90

That's 30% for fees? :x

I'm not saying mine had every square inch filled with icons, but I did let it go for a bit, and I never liked where a lot of games got installed to 5 folders deep on the Start menu as you had there, so I used to take care of those pretty quickly. I learned that folders instead of an icon for everything is pretty helpful on the desktop. My new laptop has only *1* column of desktop icons, and that's how it's going to be kept. Makes the wallpaper look better too

Don't worry, when you get out in the real world you'll run into the one guy who's the same on your code reviews, except now your shame is visible to everyone on your team.
