Re: Racketeer Weekly Fight Nights: Resurrection!

Post by noiseredux »

anyway, as stated elsewhere, been practicing 3rd Strike all week to try to get used to using arcade sticks for fighters. I've always been a pad-man for fighters (and stick-man for shmups), but since I built my makeshift cab, I've been really into trying to get better at fighters this way. At first I was baffled, but I've made a ton of progress. Doing two consecutive quarter circles for SA's is still throwing me off a little (takes me a sec to really think about what I'm doing and make sure my muscles are deliberately doing it), but I'm getting there for sure. So tonight I'll plan to use my fake-HRAP on PS3 to see how well I've trained this week.

I'm playing DC and PS3 right now, side by side downstairs. I prefer DC, but if by chance I get out of church early, I want to be ready for PS3.

I generally main Gill, unless he isn't allowed?

@Noise- That's exactly what tonight is for man. Practice against real peeps is the best way to level up your game! Parrying in an actual hit confirm link into Super on stick and parrying lows on stick has always been a challenge for me in general. So be prepared for a lot frustration while learning etc. as you know 3S is a harsh and unforgiving input master.

But since you are a lowly DC worshiper, I will make sure to pile on extra frustration for you tonight :P

parrying in general is tough haha. Y'know it's so easy in that bonus round when you're just standing there waiting to parry. But when shiz gets for real my warm heart turns cold parrying just isn't that easy.

We've got Mobb Deep lyrics, allusions of Gill play, Jump kick sweep combos, moves named after african animals, pro level arcade stick playing and a hip hop themed game OST...

What DOESN'T this fight night have in store?

Need moar RB'ers imo!

sweet man, you've got a few weeks before SF4 rotates back in (check the OP for schedule) so you can practice up and join us! Also you may want to upgrade to the 2012 DLC patch as it adds 2 characters and rebalances the current cast... though it's not entirely necessary as we can still play you in either mode (the SF4 lobby allows to switch between AE and AE 2012 for players without DLC).

If you need some links to resources on a specific character and what not, lmk!

I'm trying to make the change over to sticks myself and holy balls is it tough. I'm having a hard time just doing sonic booms.

I'll be honest dood, I went in the training room, set the CPU to just stand there and just stood there throwing like 30 hadokens to the right, then 30 to the left. Then I'd pick another character and just do a single move over and over. That kind of helped me wrap my brain around the motions a lot better.

Then I spent like a half-hour fighting a CPU in the training room, so it was just one never-ending match. So again, you're learning w/o stopping every minute or two. It definitely helped get me started.
