Funny Translations Thread

Post by catnip »

I always hear about "poor translations", and how people see that as a bad thing. I don't, necessarily - a lot of the time, I think it can add some unintentional humor/character to the game. I actually truly enjoy it.

I'm wondering if there are any others out there like me, and if you'd share some funny translations that you've come across.

For example, here's one of my favorites from my second-favorite game all-time, Monster Rancher 2:

Image
Name:
Mustard Arrow (Arrowhead/Suezo)
Description:
"Dropping tears does not always mean the sadness."

Classic. In fact, the shit translations is one of the reasons I love this game so damn much xD

Edited from "dubs/subs" to "translations". Makes a bit more sense.

My IRL friend's old site catalogs these. He's since passed it on to other staff years ago, but the Kobun/Servbot theme still remains.

Make sure you check out the Omake - Segata section (originally transcoded by me and re-encoded to Divx4 back in the day)... Yeah, Youtube exists now...

I don't think the site's got anything to discourage hotlinking, so copy the image URLs and post your favorites!

Wait, don't do that. You'll never be the same...
That quote is the primary reason Brandon abandoned the site. He's still embarrassed for being part of unleashing what is now called a "Meme" on the collective internet's fragile eggshell mind. Friends do not let friends do 4chan.

I always felt that "All your base are belong to us" was the least funny of the Engrish in Zero Wing.

Yeah, there are some real gems in there.

Also, catnip, if you like this stuff, you HAVE to check out the US release of Castle Shikigami 2 by XS.

"Slaves for fasion dislike bulges."

"I like girls, but now, its about justice!"

"I am Kim of two homes and seven moms"

... and yes, its a scrolling space shooter, of course.

I could list them all day. The best part? They are fully voice acted, by a bunch of people who just have no idea what they are reading. They even manage to read their queue's aloud instead of acting them out (instead of screaming when seeing *screams* in the text, they just read the word as part of the line).

It is seriously a gem, and a must have for fans of bad translations.

Oh, and the shmup itself is actually really solid too!
