I guess I have the wrong Saturn for modding eh?

Post by 4ppleseed »

I bought a Saturn mod chip and was going to install it this weekend but when I opened it up it looked nothing like the photo in the tutorial. So, I guess I have the wrong type of Saturn? I bought it off eBay here in the UK, I was pretty sure it was a model 2 as the joypad matches this one, with the round buttons and all...

But mine looks like this inside...

The picture quality is pretty poor but you'll see that the microchip isn't present and the Cdrom cable plugs into a little box with another lens cable.

If your memory is a little rusty, it should look like this...

What are my options here, do I need to buy a new Saturn or is there a way around this?

Thanks in advance :)

Looks like you have a Sanyo saturn.

Hiya,

I followed the Sanyo guide and managed to install the chip fine. I'm pretty sure I did it right; I A-B'd the back of the chip and soldered the power cable to the right place. Now when I put a disc in (original) it comes up with the audio CD menu. The thing I noticed is that the disc doesn't spin at all. So I think its a power issue.

I'll unsolder the power cable and try reattaching it again tonight

My Sanyo problem seems very similar to z0des's here http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 79&start=0 he doesn't mention the drive not spinning but pretty much everything else is the same.

Some people seem to think its a problem with the A-B technique, but you gotta remember that on a Sanyo we don't have a choice, its A-B or nothing as the 32 pin chip is not exposed.

Any thoughts?

try to file down the modchip, it's probably not contacting well (that's what happened to mine, and worked fine afterwards)

Yeah, I had to file it down to get it in. I'll take everything out and try putting it all back in one by one. :)

if you can't run a burnt game, you either don't have a properly burned game OR you didn't install the mod chip correctly.

Just as an update; I've given up.

I managed to get power to the drive at one point but it just span and span without stopping. I tried various combinations of the wires and resat the chip twice but couldn't get it to work.

I'm putting it down to being a Sanyo and am going to buy a Model 2 off eBay this week. I'll then try and put the chip in that.
