If you turn into a machine, are you still human? That sort of philosophical trope almost died with Blade Runner when it tanked at the box office. People generally wanted happy endings and plots that required as much thought as munching on popcorn.
The third installment in Linklater's phenomenal series which also includes BEFORE SUNRISE and BEFORE SUNSET. As keeping consistent with the series, the movie follows two characters, Celine and Jesse, who manage to despise each other while at the same time being madly in love.
This isn't a film for everyone, and in fact some might find it boring. After all, the series is almost solely dialogue between the two main characters, and their conversations can hit a bit too close to home. At times you forget you are watching a movie and can see yourself as either of the main characters. The arguments are brutal, the emotion is real, acting Oscar worthy, and the script is beyond superb.
"Is it one of those Artsy films?". To me it transcends "Artsy". Yes it is unique, but very easy to relate to if you've ever been in love. And like most great love stories, life isn't depicted as perfect. Dysfunctional love isn't difficult to understand when you're human. Wjile watching the movie you'll ask yourself both "Will they remain in love" and "Should they be in love in the first place?".
BEFORE MIDNIGHT isn't for people who like to turn their brain off when going to the theater. There's nothing wrong with loving explosions and robots. But if you like films that really tackle human nature, this is a must see.

Most of the stuff we watched as kids in the 80s, would be deemed unworthy for kids nowadays. The 80s was an awesome time to grow up.

Most of the stuff we watched as kids in the 80s, would be deemed unworthy for kids nowadays. The 80s was an awesome time to grow up.
I watched it as a kid, we all know that back then anything to do with computer and technology was mind grabbing because computers were a new thing and we were all wondering about the possibilities (Didn't people predict that we will have flying cars by 2000 ?) . Any way, I thought Robocop was one of those movies that you thought were amazing when you are a kid and when you revisit it on IMDB you will find it with a laughable rating of 5 or less . Amazingly it got 7.5 .
I still can't believe they gave The Jackal 6.3 , thats like my favorite movie ever.

Robocop 2 & 3, sure that falls under the "good when you were kid, terrible as an adult" category. But the original Robocop is one of the finest action movies ever made; as a kid or an adult.
BTW, reading my earlier post back. "Worthy" wasn't the right word to use. That came across wrong. I should have said "Movies deemed innappropriate for kids."
My brain is still processing the awesomeness. Like the first installment, almost non-stop beautifully choreographed action.
Would you say this one tops it?
I know that question would be asked, and all I can honestly say after one viewing that "it's up there". The action is even more intense, believe it or not, and Mad Dog is in the movie, but he's not Mad Dog (see the movie to avoid confusion). If I had the keys to the car, Mad Dog would be in every action movie.
So although he's there and he's a force to not be handled lightly, he doesn't feel the same as a character. And of course RAID 2 is on a more grandiose scale, I prefer the claustrophobic feel that RAID gave.
To be as obscure as possible, RAID and RAID 2 are the same, but different. It's worth the price of admission.
When I was sick I watched alot of netflix so here are some oneliners from the last few days:
1. Happy Gilmore - still my favorite Adam Sandler movie, and the only one that I actually enjoy.
2. Safety Not Guaranteed - excellent concept bad execution, unneeded side story about the head writer which if removed would have made the movie excellent.
3. Robot and Frank - BRILLIANT, though a tad on the long side. Three words: Friendly Robot Cat-burglar
4. Giant Mechanical Man - Charming and engaging story about a street performer and a love interest.
5. Journey to the Center of the Earth (1959) - A very well crafted film about one of Jules Vernes excellent stories. It really made me want one of their Ruhmkorff lamps, though with an LED light source instead of a Geissler tube. I have some sketches, but I need to rewatch it now that my fever is gone and I have my cognitive sleuthing abilities back in motion.
6. Casa de mi Padre - Interesting concept, fell flat for me.
7. Toys - Still super bizarre, but I really like the scene where Cuba Gooding Jr is introduced.
8. MST3k Laserblast - When the movie has a clip show of the first half half way through, you know they raked it good.
9. MST3k Final Sacrifice - Still one of their finest episodes.
10. Lego Clutch Powers - A childs movie about a modernday Indiana Jones legoman, but a whole hell of a lot of fun and full of bad adult lego jokes - ie Clutch Power is the technical term for now legos stay together. I very much enjoyed the film and am now hyped for the Lego movie next month.
One of the greatest heist films ever made with one of the greatest heist sequences, Rififi is a film that all fans of noir, crime, and French cinema should watch. It tracks everything about a jewelry heist, from the plotting to the execution, to the bloody aftermath as rival gangsters who want in on the action move in on the four thieves and their loved ones. It's also an excellent response to director Jules Dassin's blacklisting by Hollywood during the McCarthy years.
