SNESdrunk reviews
Re: SNESdrunk reviews
I have always wondered about Sparkster on the SNES. Thanks for the review, I think I'll be seeking this one out soon.

It's seriously worth playing just for the explosion sound. It's such a satisfying BOOM, I never knew the SNES hardware was capable of something like thatAck wrote:I have always wondered about Sparkster on the SNES. Thanks for the review, I think I'll be seeking this one out soon.

Ah, you're SNESdrunk now! I wanted to pull up your review of Secret of Evermore, so I was scrolling through my "view your posts" page looking for your old username.... What was it now? sweezer? There was a 1 in there I think. sw1eezy... something. There was definitely an S up front, a 1 in there, and two Es.

s1rweeze. Very long very dull story as to how that name came about (going all the way back to the mid 90s when I had AOL as a teenager)Ziggy587 wrote:Ah, you're SNESdrunk now! Yeah, along with M.U.S.H.A. and a few other games, I'm glad I started collecting certain titles I liked as a kid long before the retro game bubble got so inflated.
It really blows my mind how quickly the price of some of these titles shot up in such a short time.

It's such a bummer, because it's hard to talk about the game without mentioning the price tag. Some of these games have become status symbols now.Gunstar Green wrote:Yeah, along with M.U.S.H.A. and a few other games, I'm glad I started collecting certain titles I liked as a kid long before the retro game bubble got so inflated.![]()

Metal Warriors is a game I would have liked to have owned, but for now I'm content to wait and see what happens.
Good review though. So what game will you be doing next? Could we see you do Robotrek? Shien's Revenge? Musya?

Already did Robotrek, the earlier reviews I did were kind of clunky thoughAck wrote:Metal Warriors is a game I would have liked to have owned, but for now I'm content to wait and see what happens.

Since you asked, next week will be Out of This World, a game that made a gigantic impression on me. There's also Final Fantasy VI which I've been writing and re-writing for a longass time now. I also eventually want to do the Donkey Kong Country trilogy but that's going to take a lot of work and a lot of writing.
Other far-away projects: I used to discriminate against shmups as a kid and dismiss them entirely with the attitude of "Oh whatever, it's just a shoot-em-up, they're all the same." So I'd love to be able to make a huge SNES shmup video that kind of catalogs each one and demonstrates which ones are worth playing and why. Or maybe pigeon-holing them all into one huge video is a bad idea. Don't know yet, but that's an idea I had.

Yeah, my brain kind of blanked on you having done it already, which is even worse because I remember enjoying the review! Haha, my fault.SNESdrunk wrote:Already did Robotrek, the earlier reviews I did were kind of clunky thoughAck wrote:Metal Warriors is a game I would have liked to have owned, but for now I'm content to wait and see what happens.

I've wondered about the SNES port of Out of This World, as I've only played it on Genesis. And you better believe I'm down for watching all of the SNES shmups getting a full comparison. An Aerofighters/Axelay/Biometal/BlaZeon/Choplifter III/D-Force/Darius Twin/Firepower 2000/Gradius III/Hunt for Red October/Imperium/Phalanx/R-Type III/Raiden Trad/Space MegaForce/Strike Gunner S.T.G/Super Earth Defense Force/Super Nova/Super R-Type/Thunder Spirits/U.N. Squadron video would be awesome! But would you want to incorporate games that use SHMUP designs for only certain levels, like Captain America and the Avengers, The Death and Return of Superman, or Jim Power: The Lost Dimension in 3D?
