I didn't know you were an original Uper. Not shocked that most drivers there know how to drive in the snow. Like with everything besides breathing, it takes practice and experience. Unfortunately, you'll also make mistakes.Blu wrote:It's so lovely to look at. It's horrible to drive in, at least around here. I'm used to the Upper Peninsula...
People have their philosophies of "drive into the slide" to the crazy "hit the e-brake and spin out of the slide".
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Transplanted or adopted Yooper at best. Happens when you're a military brat.
Luke, after spending so much time in the Chicago area, did you ever take a short trip to the UP at all?
Driving in it isn't too much of a science. Don't slam the brake if you hit any ice, just let your vehicle roll over it. Don't change lanes or make turns too quickly. REALLY increase your following distance. And always wear warm clothes, pack a blanket, snow shovel, and some sand/kitty litter for small instances of getting stuck. I don't necessarily miss driving in it, but it's frustrating when it seems you're the only driver that knows how to drive in it.

Ahh, the UP. Don't drive at all, any time, any season, regardless of weather after 6pm. From Escanaba to Sault Ste Marie, there isn't a single gas station open after 6pm.

My mother's from Marquette. Drove there once; won't do it again.
I got a call today from someone inquiring about The Machinist, and was pretty excited. Started telling everyone, and no one else knew the movie, so I got sad.

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
I lived in Marquette for 8 years and find it to be one of the most beautiful places on this planet that I've seen. I've only seen about 3% of the world's landmass, but still. I totally understand driving there can be difficult as you have to go through tundra and nothingness for quite some time. It's a deterrent!
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
I've been a lot of places. Seen some things. I don't get up for much anymore.
Also, yes. The drive from NE to Marquette is like Chinese water torture.

Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

It's so good, though; like a modern Hitchcock film.Stark wrote:I've seen it! Depressing!pierrot wrote:I got a call today from someone inquiring about The Machinist, and was pretty excited. Started telling everyone, and no one else knew the movie, so I got sad.
