I feel the same, plus MMX3 just has a totally different feel to me than MMX and MMX2. Much longer levels that are much trickier to navigate. Plus the Dr. Doppler stuff seems random and out of nowhere to me.

Random aside: one thing the NES Mega Man games did really well were making use of all the different weapons in the levels instead of just the bosses. (Especially Mega Man 2 and not just for the Metal Blade.) For MMX and most of MMX2, I feel like you can just blaze through the entire game with just the super-charged arm cannon and the weapons hardly even matter. It's like this huge potential element of strategy sitting right there only to get ignored (except for the bosses). That's probably my only nitpick of those games though.

Ack was it you who almost broke his controller over the rocket stage in DKC3? I just beat it on my last life :D. (first try continue wise, and I think I had about 7 lives going in).

It's not that it's difficult or anything, it just requires memorization. My biggest gripe with the stage is that.....it's just not fun. I mean the mechanics of the rocket. And the stuff you do with it. Plus I know there are memory and budget limitations, but this was really screaming for a outer space themed stage :D

Yeah, that was probably me. Damn platformers, why did I play so many of you last year, and why am I thinking about tracking down copies of Ardy Lightfoot, Sparkster, Plok, and Mr. Nutz this year?

Some made use of their weapons better than others. The X games definitely focused more on the armor upgrades than the weapons. I think Mega Man is at its best when it gives the weapons secondary utility uses outside of combat.

I think the level structure has a lot to do with it too. The classic series has very obstacle-course like levels that prompt you to search for better solutions while the X series is tuned for more straight forward action.

That was actually the reason that for Mega Man 9 they removed the Mega Buster. If you ignore stage gimmicks like how Crash Bombs can blow through certain walls and the mobility items, then boss weapons generally fit the purpose of "makes it easier to take down an enemy". When you have the Mega Buster that frequently removes even that advantage of boss weapons.

I think you are talking about the charge shot MrPopo, cause the mega buster is just his standard attack weapon.

Nope, the Mega Buster is specifically his ability to charge up his shots; rewatch the intro to Mega Man 4 where they introduced it.
