What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

People need to stop hotlinking from sites like IMDb, Amazon and ImpAwards. Just hotlink from Wikipedia. That's what I do and it always works fine.

Unless there isn't a picture I can use.

That's because you visited the site and it is pulling from your internet cache. IMDB and quite a few larger sites do not allow hotlinking. If you clear your browser cache and look at the post here without visiting the IMDB page again first, you won't see it either. You can test to see if the hotlinking worked by holding down shift and refreshing the Racket page. This forces it to reload all images from the servers so if the site doesn't allow it, you won't see the image. But just remember, IMDB and a lot of bigger sites do not allow hotlinking.

Novelty wears off when there is nothing novel about it. KICK ASS wasn't violent just to be violent, but to establish the atmosphere and environment of where the characters lived. KICK ASS 2's violence was there for shock value and action scene filler.

That, and rape being used as comedic relief is bad form.

KICK ASS also appealed to a broader audience, and KICK ASS 2 basically appealed to boys.

Watched A NEW HOPE in the recently remodeled theater room. Cinematic perfection that movie is.

Last night I watched my blu-ray copy of Francois Truffaut's The 400 Blows

The 400 Blows

Every time I watch this movie I think I appreciate it just a little bit more, which is a good thing since I loved it after my first viewing. I'm not as enamored with the stylistic choices of the film, like I am with some French new wave stuff (aside from the exquisite final shot), but moreso engaged by the youthful rebellious spirit of the film. A classic for a reason, and one that sticks with you after viewing.

Rewind This!

On Hulu Plus, I saw this documentary about VHS tapes. Some stuff I was very aware of such as the Betamax/VHS war, and the amount of unique VHS films that still haven't made it to DVD or Bluray. But it was very interesting to see so much love for the format, and to hear from people who still dedicate themselves to these tapes in today's modern age. Reminded me a lot of Racketboy actually, especially after seeing some of the collections.

I also really enjoyed the section covering the unique VHS art, and the talk of video preservation was compelling. Some great interviews here too with Frank Henenlotter, Lloyd Kaufman, the Everything Is Terrible dude, Cassandra Peterson, the actress from Visitor Q, and the guy who directed Tourist Trap. Overall, I really enjoyed this, and recommend it to anyone even sightly nostalgic for the format.

Haven't seen Kick Ass 2, but I can't say I'm surprised. Only so much can be expected from a comic book movie, especially a comic that isn't DC or Marvel.

Incoming rant in 3...2...1...

The movie didn't use rape for comedy, because there WAS no rape scene. I'm sick of people crying foul over a rape scene that never actually happened

And frankly, rape is fair play in any movie if the story justifies it. Sick of today's politically correct world getting their panties in a bunch over every stupid little thing. You're no different from the people accusing video games of corrupting our society because they depict violence or half naked women. Entertainment doesn't corrupt society, bad parenting and poor education does

And how is the sequel's violence any more indulgent than a movie where a villain gets blown away by a bazooka, and a girl kills a bunch of thugs while an upbeat Joan Jett and the Blackhearts song plays in the background?

Please

IT'S THE EXACT SAME MOVIE AS THE FIRST ONE!

rant over...

I'm not really sure what to think of this film. I like its 70s Sci-Fi aesthetic, the plot is interesting (though not as interesting as the original plot), and of course it's nice to see the inspiration for Red Dwarf and Wall-E. It also doesn't hurt that the drones were named after Donald Duck's nephews. 8)

However, I can't escape the feeling that the whole film was rendered pointless by its ending. Why is it only Dewey that remains on the dome? Yeah, Lowell mentions that Huey is too damaged to assist Dewey but that doesn't mean that he can't keep him company. These drones apparently have some capacity for emotions so I'm sure they'd appreciate the companionship. How is Lowell sure that Dewey can maintain the garden in his absence? The drone has been taught to care for the plants but what if an unforeseen problem arises? While the drone is shown to have artificial intelligence, it's very limited in that it has to be taught everything. In the middle of the film, it has to be told how to place a plant in a hole. Without the faculties to learn without being specifically taught, the drone cannot adapt should the need to arise. Lastly, why did Lowell kill himself anyway? He could've easily detonated the nuclear charges from the safety of the ejected dome. While he wouldn't last very long compared to Dewey, he would've at least spent his remaining years caring for the garden he loved. The ending as is leaves me with the impression that the garden will only last as long as Dewey doesn't encounter any problems.

The other film I watched was Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings. This one I can easily sum up my thoughts about it. It sucks so good. 8)

Just a reminder that you actually posted this.

Because there is some justification for rape.

I watched Prisoners the other night. I don't keep up with movies too much so I really didn't know much about the movie but wow, it was really surprisingly good.
