What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?

I hear ya. I forgot to add personality tests, IQ tests, thank you letters, cover letters, letters of reference, and so on. If you are entry level or an executive, it doesn't matter that much these days as the hiring process is dumb.

Not to crap all over HR, but a person should be interviewed by his/her boss, and the boss should be able to figure out if you are or aren't a good fit. It used to be that if you got an interview, that interview was win or lose, no more "tests".

Some companies don't make you jump through hoops (and the people I've hired have been based on one interview, nothing more) but it is rare.

Somewhat related, I've been contacted by a headhunter concerning a job in radiology equipment sales. Quoth Master P, I'm bout it bout it. I'd jump ship without hesitation to jet set and sell medical equipment. If it doesn't pan out, I'm fine, but it sounds pretty cool. Really happy working with the Art Museum, but selling medical equipment is "I have a small apple orchard in Maryland" money.

I recently changed jobs and it was an ordeal. Lots of initial phone screens with HR people, then a technical phone screen (sometimes a second one), then an onsite, finally you'd get to the offer stage. The company I'm with now had their process be a technical phone screen (which turned out to be with my boss, and was a light technical), then an onsite, then an HR interview (which was a more intensive "how did you resolve the last time you had a disagreement", "what makes an effective team", etc type of interview), finally an offer.

Smile: Getting new shelving put up in my game room tomorrow.

Exhausted: Took me an hour to get all my games off the existing shelves and clear out the area around it. I'm not looking forward to reshelving everything.

I'm at the technical phone screen step. The HR screening wasn't too bad - the interviewer was impressed that I had already gone ahead and gotten a security cert that they don't require their own employees to get for six months. If I get past that, then I come into the office for a couple hour interview with the managers of the team I'm trying to get hired on to.

Again, I know I'm being impatient. Four months ago I barely knew what an IP address is and now I'm CCNA. Switching careers takes some time but I've never been good at waiting.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

 : good will prices are getting crazy around here. They are charging retail prices for used donated items all of which are sold as is untested :P. Plus they are going out of their way to ensure every item they sell has prices written on with permanent marker.

Laughed my ass off today when I saw they had an older off brand 32 inch flat screen. It was marked $250 which was a reduction from $300 :P.

Really the only good deals there are the vinyl records and furniture but most of that stuff is beat to hell :P.

Our Goodwills have crazy prices. The one I have made many good finds at is usually decently priced, but they have no small electronics section, nor do they have anything really organized. The other two have had individual VHS tapes of movies for $5, and wanted $1000 for am Insignia LCD tv and $50 for a sealed PS2 controller. But I agree, records are usually stupidly cheap. Our good store had them for $.49 for most and $.99 for some (mostly double albums), but recently they went to a flat $1.99. But I have made some great finds in their records over the last few months. Last week I found two Bob Newhart comedy albums.

Proud of ya Flake, CCNA in six months is nothing to scoff at.

Smile: Day 0!! Transplant day is here, she's getting it at 8pm PST tonight. She pretty much had the best conditioning period they could've expected and we're at a great position for transplant.

Wow, sweet!

I really hope you like Mountain Dew. You're going to spend the next four years drinking a lot of it.
