I probably will. I watched the Godfather multiple times, by the way. And do we really need the insult?Luke wrote:Sounds right up your alley actually.Forlorn Drifter wrote: HER seems like the story of a pathetic man to me.
You guys are the new era of people who said "The Godfather? Puh-lease. Sounds like a story of a pathetic man in some stupid mob movie. Just a sad idea for a movie".
Here's a novel idea; watch a movie before you judge it.
I'm just saying I don't see what that can offer. A story about someone falling in love with something that isn't human, then leading to the question of what love truly is? I'm sure that's been done before, but I don't really see the point. Love is an ill defined idea in the first place, and I think anyone with half a brain knows that. But the idea of a man falling for something non-human? I think that is generally found to be pathetic. I've seen and laughed at enough stories on the internet about people marrying or being in love with barbie dolls, anime characters, stuffed animals, and other things to know that it is a pretty sad thing.
I knew about this already, if I remember correctly Tarantino said that was the direct influence for California Mountain Snake.prfsnl_gmr wrote:She is quite clearly the inspiration for Elle Driver (a/k/a California Mountain Snake) in the Kill Bill movies:Forlorn Drifter wrote:Patch immediately makes me think of "They Call Her One Eye", which is a very good thing.

If it speaks and thinks like a human, what is human, after all? I think the plot sounds a bit silly, and I swear it's been done before, but I don't really see the comparison between falling in love with a sentient computer and falling in love with a inanimate doll.Forlorn Drifter wrote:I'm just saying I don't see what that can offer. Also keep in mind that as robotics becomes more and more advanced, the ability to manufacture something synonymous with human will eventually develop.o.pwuaioc wrote:If it speaks and thinks like a human, what is human, after all? In the meantime, you guys should watch Robot & Frank:

So I guess a lot of you don't care for Blade Runner either?

What if you put a sentient computer in an inanimate doll? Tada, a sex doll that can moan for you.
I just don't get it, the movie will probably be lost on me. I also think the movement for making human like robots (and by extension animal like robots) is inefficient overall, and many of the functions could be done quite better by finding a different form of inspiration. I mean, if basing robots on animals and humans had gone as planned at one point, we wouldn't have cars, we'd have carriages pulled by steam driven horses.
I like Blade Runner though.

It's not a new concept, which is why I mentioned E.T.Forlorn Drifter wrote: I'm just saying I don't see what that can offer. A story about someone falling in love with something that isn't human...
You are being one dimensional. People fall in love with music, celebrities, lifestyles, drugs, art...the list goes on. HER is based on the exploration of love, and why we love things/people.
I won't blow it out of proportion and say it's a soul searching movie, but it does make you question yourself and others.
Ahhh, fu@k it. The film is somewhat soul searching. If in or out of love you;l ask yourself:
How did I fall in love?
How did I stay in love?
Why did I fall in love?
What would I do if I wasn't in love?
And as Tina Turner would ask "What's love got to do with it?".
But I'm a guy who adores FRANCES HA, and the Linklater "Before" series. Sure, big robots fighting is great, but I am attracted to movies that really strike a chord with me.

Saw Nebraska. It was fitting and endearing, and eerily similar to some of my experiences in a small town locale. I wouldn't say I loved it, but it was likeable.
