Looking for list of Sony Memory Cards released in US only
Looking for list of Sony Memory Cards released in US only
So I'm trying to collect at least one of every US Sony Brand Playstation 1 memory card including the variants but I would like to have a complete list of them. I already know about the master list on Maru-Chang but that only covers JP releases. I'm pretty sure the US received most of them but it's a little bit confusing because they changed some of the names and the colors look identical. Any help or anyone with a complete US Sony Brand Memory Card collection would be much appreciated.

This would be good to know too!
But dont all ps1 official cards look alike? Other than colors are the stickers the same?
What about packaging?
Could you link that other site with the jp memory cards?
Thanks!

Sorry I can't help. I once had a folder filled with JPGs I had downloaded from PlayStation.com years ago. The JPGs were of, I assume, every colour memory card released in the USA. That folder is lost.
To make things simple, I only "collect" the memory cards released in the PSone packaging. There are only five colours in this style.

I remember seeing a ps1 tomb raider memory card in stores back in the day. Here's a pic:
Although on second though, I guess that's not Sony branded...

Re: Looking for list of Sony Memory Cards released in US onl
These are some of my official ps1 cards that I have near me right now. I have a few more somewhere.

I'd take it then that the bright red one there isn't a US release? Dont tell me where i got it, cause i've bought lots of them used over the years. Probably the last new one I got was back in 1998.
Also, are those color variants you listed; are they because their colors are slightly off? Whats the major difference? Other than the size of the chip inside? The two bluish ones there are kinda different. Is this a variant? Or is one just faded or with sun damage?
Also, I have another question for our fellow RB experts. What do the codes mean on the stickers in the back? Is there a way to tell the manufacturing date of them with these? Or to tell what region? Although it may not matter since all cards work on every ps1! I took a pic of mine anyways for you guys

Also, it looks like there's different back sticker colors on the gray memory cards! Go figure!
My last best guess on who may have your answer OP, on all those ps1 cards is this dude and his website:

Your bright red on looks like the official Red one from Sony which is one of the rarest memory cards.flojocabron wrote:These are some of my official ps1 cards that I have near me right now. I have a few more somewhere.

I consider some of the cards variants because either the board or package is different. For example the original release of the Island Blue had a smaller board than the re-release (that makes no sense at all
As for the codes and the capital letter on the back of some of the cards I am still trying to figure that out myself. I'm guessing the letter is the factory where the card was manufactured. The controllers have these letters as well.
I'm still trying to figure out the differences between the stickers on the back. I know the ones with the checkmark and the N1158 came latter.
I talk to Jason over at GameRave quite often but even he doesn't know much about memory cards.
Here is the site I mentioned that has all of the cards.

I'm guessing they match with the two blue ones in packages already listed, but for my various clear blue ones, the differences on the back are that kind with the N1158 has silver screws and a silver component to the left of the chip. The kind with just the CE only has black screws and no component left of the chip.

Anyone know if Slate Gray was even released in the US? I'm still not 100% convinced that it was. That very well could be the European package because they look identical. If any one has one that you've bought from a US store please post a pic or let me know.
Re: Looking for list of Sony Memory Cards released in US onl
In my search for a sealed slate grey card, I discovered that the card itself is 100% identical between the US/Canada region and Europe. It's rather odd that they sold cards with FCC and Canadian warnings printed on the sticker, but that's fine with me. After looking for years for a sealed USA version, I gave up and cracked open my European version (accidentally bought thinking it was USA version). I was pleased to see the card was the same as my others.
I am also suspecting that the slate grey was never widely distributed in the US. I have yet to see even a photo of the retail package. I've been looking for it for four years now.
