Playing PS2 games on 60GB PS3
Playing PS2 games on 60GB PS3
I have a chance to trade my 40GB PS3 and $80.00 for a 60GB PS3 should I do it? I'm really looking to buy it for the BC of PS2 games but have heard they look terrible on HDTVs. It would be hooked up HDMI on a 1080P LCD does anyone have a simliar setup to compare? Has Sony release a patch to fix the jaggy problem or bump up the resolution? My PS2 is hooked up with S-video because the non progressive games look like crap on component cables. It would be nice to free up some space on my entertainment center for future systems. Any help would be appreciated thanks.

i would do it so you can free up space in your entertainment center and play your PS2 games. I have a huge collection so it was an easy decision for me just my opinion. I have my PS3 running on an HDTV as well 1080p DLP Samsung and I tested lots of PS2 titles and most looked fine with some of the new enhancements such as smoothing and I have it run via HDMI used to do component... hope this helps... Overall, If you have lots of PS2 titles I would recommend it...

Indeed, there is filtering which you can turn on. Normally I would be totally against it, because it makes the image look softer, but if you got sharpness on your tv. it can do miracles combined. HDMI offcourse is the best option for image display.Dakinggamer87 wrote:i would do it so you can free up space in your entertainment center and play your PS2 games. You might want too turn upscaling off, for ps2 games and turn it on for ps1 games.
ps1 games upscale = on
ps2 games upscale = off
The best results will be gotten with native 480p ps2 games offcourse. HOLD triangle+x.
check the 480p ps2 wiki for details!

Thank you everyone for making my choice easier.
Re: Playing PS2 games on 60GB PS3
i would do it either way, just to have the 60gig ps3. I use multiple usb ports sometimes, so for me it helps to have 4 of them. I also use the SD card reader sometimes. Even without the ps2 capabilities i think $80 is a good price to pay to upgrade. just make sure it works before you buy it as some older units have had DRE problems.

I took the plunge and got a 60GB a little while back, and I don't regret. All I wish is that Outrun 2006 could work. I would love it someone found a way to hack it so it could play import PS1/PS2 games and any DVD/Blu-Ray region. That would make the system amazing.
