Re: Nintendo 3DS
From my time with the demo I don't really see your problem with the BP starting at 0. You aren't punished for being negative at the end of the battle, and there's nothing stopping you from using 4 turns at once from the outset (besides having to wait 4 turns if you dont win the battle). Most random encounters boiled down to attacking 4 times with 3 of my characters and defaulting with my white mage just in case. The fact that default is also your defend command is a bonus.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:Lots of stuff.
I found Ninja and Swordmaster to be the two most useful classes when I played the demo, although Swordmaster requires some skills from other classes (Ninja's first skill is especially useful) to get going.
I adore FFV, so I'll probably pick this one up sooner rather than later. it was on my christmas list, but that didn't work out.
Re: Nintendo 3DS
I had many of the same concerns. Then I watched a video discussing how the demo is virtually nothing like the retail game. Now I am convinced to buy.

Re: Nintendo 3DS
I'll have to watch the video linked above. I wasn't terribly impressed with the demo. I mean, it's not BAD or anything, just didn't have me reaching for my wallet.
But personally, I prefer old school Dragon Quest over old school Final Fantasy so it may just not be for me.

His points are that the demo:
- puts you at an arbitrary point in the timeline
- pits you against enemies that are intended for level 4, but you are level 1
- sends you on many fetch quests when the retail game has none
- has no real story, while the retail game has a significant amount of story
- is extremely poor at explaining the battle system

Re: Nintendo 3DS
alienjesus, what difficulty level were you using? On the hardest one, I wasn't able to defeat random encounters with four consecutive Braves in one turn.

I've already updated the firmware in order to use the eShop though.
Re: Nintendo 3DS
On the non-hardest difficulties the Brave command also only costs a single BP (any extras are from abilities like the Valkyrie's). So in the battles where I start off with 1 BP I could do a Brave on each character with no penalty. I played on the second hardest difficulty (I can't remember if there was three or four settings) and I quickly realized that the best way to go for the early battles was to activate Brave on every character to do four attacks per, so 16 attacks vs the enemy party would completely wipe them out.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:alienjesus, what difficulty level were you using?
