I'm bad with the sub-sub-genre thing, but yeah, most Metalheads I know will do death metal, black metal, power metal... but won't come close to listening to someting like ABR, Dillinger, or even stuff like Meshuggah, Periphery, etc.

Then again, they tend to identify with a sub-genre, and will listen to everything from that sub-genre before listening to anything else.
No, hardcore means hardcore punk(originated late 1970s), so D.O.A., Madball, Agnostic Front, Suicidal Tendencies, etc. Hardcore is an influence on the development of extreme metal, most notably Thrash in my opinion(there's even another pesky subgenre of Thrash called Crossover Thrash which features much more influence from hardcore). Grindcore developed in the mid-1980s and contains elements of hardcore, various extreme metals, industrial, etc., so bands like Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and so forth.

I like hardcore, metal, grindcore, and a good amount of metalcore too. 8)

For reference, this is probably the best website dedicated to early hardcore punk bands:

No, hardcore means the early raver breakbeat music of the early 1990s that would later become jungle/dnb, so Sonz of a Loop Da Loop Era, Cosmo & Dibs, Hyper-On Experience, etc.

Oh wait... I'm not in the electronic music thread. :P

i cannot wait for this album. i'm a HUGE fan of essentially everything Jon Chang has ever done and i feel like this one will truly be his swan song (if you can have a swan song in grindcore haha).

Very cool. Discordance Axis is one of my top 5 grind bands ever so I will definitely be checking this out.

Kinda embarrassed to say I hadn't even heard of Gridlink until now.
