I've had this phone (the first Google Android phone) for almost a month now and I can't imagine going without it now.
http://www.t-mobileg1.com/
I've played with the iPhone casually before, but between me using Google services (especially GMail), having a nice slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and an open development platform, I wouldn't trade this for an iPhone any day.
The phone and the data plan is reasonable and I get to stay with T-Mobile (who has great customer service)
Even though negatives mentioned in most reviews of the phone are nitpicks at best.
Battery life isn't really great, but considering its always monitoring your email and other stuff, it isn't bad.
I only have to charge once a day and I use it regularly.
Considering its only been about for a little over a month, the apps on the Marketplace are pretty good. I still have a wishlist of solid apps I would like to see (podcast manager, solid Twitter client, Pandora, etc), but there is some impressive stuff out there already (ShopSavvy, PhoneFlix, etc)
Anyway, I could go on rambling much longer, but I just wanted to share.
If anyone has questions, lemme know!

You suck. I've got the Verizon free crap-phone. I wish I had a job so I could have money...

cool good deal nice to hear a user review. I've been on the fence between the iPhone 3G from Apple, Blackberry Storm, or G1 from T-Mobile.. seems like I should give G1 a try..
still need to research it...

I think I'm going to get one too. I've been reading up on them and they sound awesome. I'm really stoked. Lets hope for some emulators soon

From what I've heard the Storm isn't that great. Plus Blackberry isn't as good of a platform for developers. BB is good for corperate stuff, but for consumer stuff, iPhone or Android is the way to go.

Re: Racket Loves His T-Mobile G1
Got the iPhone 3G last week and I LOVE it. I've been surgically attached to it pretty much every day. I was going to wait for the google phone, but ... it's a new platform and there aren't as many apps out for it (Android community will be kicking out the apps in no time, though). I'm not usually one to comment on design, but something about it struck me as very utilitarian-looking. Just didn't click with me.
I do fine with the touchscreen keyboard. Suits me OK. I can hook my gmail account into my iPhone and it works great. I have a couple dozen apps and most of them are free, including Pandora, a pretty good Twitter app (I'm following you on Twitter now Racket) and killer apps for facebook, youtube, wordpress, the new york times, ebay, netflix, movie times, streaming radio. And there's some pretty good games, too. Between the G1, the iPhone and the Blackberry Storm, there's a real race brewing for smartphones right now.
Anyway, I know how you feel. I haven't been this enthralled with a piece of tech for a long time. It's so freaking sweet to be able to do all this stuff on your phone. My wife is jealous I spend so much time paying attention to it and not her!!

I like my normal person phone, because it's normal, and it's a phone. And it lasts powered on 5 days on a charge. And it has a megaman ringtone. That's pretty much all I could ever want. I leave the internet at home. I don't need it with me at all times.

The promo stuff does make Android look utilitarian, but the apps (even the early ones) make up for it. I need to record a video sometime --- especially with ShopSavvy.
