Video Game Neologisms

Post by J T »

The Washington Post has an annual contest where people create funny made up words (neologisms) and definitions. I thought it would be fun to do the same, but with a videogame theme. For example...

Call of Doodie: an irresistible urge to play a crappy FPS game.

Super Marionara[: a highly delicious Italian pasta sauce, usually served with mushrooms.

Got others?

Speaking of controllers, finally looked up Joystick. Always thought the name was a play of words as a fun controller in the early days of the computing before the PC. Thinking of the bat handle controllers for Computer Space.

The name "joystick" is thought to originate with early 20th century French pilot Robert Esnault-Pelterie. There are also competing claims on behalf of fellow pilots Robert Loraine, James Henry Joyce, and A. E. George. Loraine is cited by the Oxford English Dictionary for using the term "joystick" in his diary in 1909 when he went to Pau to learn to fly at Bleriot's school. George was a pioneer aviator who with his colleague Jobling built and flew a biplane at Newcastle in England in 1910. He is alleged to have invented the "George Stick" which became more popularly known as the joystick.
More off the wall maybe slightly related. I remember many many years ago I saw on was it HBO? Short comedy break snippets of various made up words. The one I thought was funny was a word describing suicide of a piece of toast by spreading rock hard cold butter on it. Really would like to remember that word.
