Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
They are one of my all time favorite bands. IMO, most modern metal bands need pay homage to Pantera. They are the ones that brought heavy music out of the underground scene and brought it to the mainstream.brunoafh wrote:What does the tribe think of Pantera? I thought there was one of you that disliked them. I listen to Far Beyond Driven today, first time I listened to the whole thing in years. Fucking loved it. Strength Beyond Strength is one of their best songs imo.
I don't consider the pre-Phil stuff to be Pantera. They were Pantera by name only. Even the glam album with Phil wasn't Pantera. When they said fuck glam and reinvented themselves with CFH, metal changed forever.
Even though they aren't the heaviest band by most metal standards they are still heavy as hell. Songs like Suicide Note Part 2, Sand Blasted Skin, Fucking Hostile, By Demons Be Driven, Strength Beyond Strength, and Becoming are all brutal and would not want to be in the pit for any of those songs.
On a side note: Phil's new solo album is pretty good. It is a little off-putting at first just because it is an odd repetative sound. But, given a few spends, it will grow on you.
Also, Down is one of my favorite metal bands. They are no where near as heavy as the bands that came together to form them, but they still have a great sound. I think they are more of an acquired taste, especially Down II and Down III, but given the right mood you will find some great music there.

I got Deceiver of the Gods as soon as I heard it. This may be blasphemy to many longtime Amon Amarth fans (which I'm one, too), but I think it's their best album yet. It's a fantastic album to listen to from beginning to end.Ack wrote:Yeah, I never have gotten around to watching that DVD...
Between the two, I prefer Twilight of the Thunder Gods, but both are great albums. If you haven't picked up Deceiver of the Gods yet, I suggest you do. It has a track on there, Hel, with Messiah Marcolin singing.

So I'm sitting at work, listening to Sodom. Have any of you guys picked up their latest, Epitome of Torture? Is it worth getting?

Hey guys, my wife really wants to get APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION on vinyl, but I haven't been able to find it under $30usd (shipping included). I'm looking to spend $20usd, max. Does anyone have any possible leads?

I'd hit up some brick and mortar record stores, and I'd also be willing to look used.Luke wrote:Hey guys, my wife really wants to get APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION on vinyl, but I haven't been able to find it under $30usd (shipping included). $30 incl. shipping is pretty standard for new vinyl I find.
If you're set on looking online, I'd try the discogs marketplace. I've found some good deals there.
