Re: Xbox One

Post by dsheinem »

I'm excited about this one coming out this week (though I won't be touching it until Sunday), but I also feel that the launch of the two systems are indicative of everything I hated/liked about the PS3/360. With the PS4 launch, I got 2 games "free" as a PS+ member and 2 more games "free" that were cross-buys from the PS3. That meant that even though I only bought 3 games at launch (for $80 at that), I ultimately had seven I can play on the system out of the gate.

By contrast, with the One, I am paying $100 more for tech that I don't much care about yet and will have to pony up quite a bit to get a few games running on the thing at launch. I'll be in for easily $100-$200 more total than I was with the PS4 for a smaller selection of things to do on a system that I (for now) am less enthusiastic about comparatively. It would be nice if MS considered cross platform stuff even a little, provided more incentive for Live, etc. They should have already announced stuff like Crimson Dragon or a Forza starter version for free for Gold members with the Xbox One, but alas...

I really feel like Sony went out of their way to give their customers lots of things to do right out of the gate without having to cough up a ton of extra cash.

Without buying a single game, you have access to:
Warframe
DC Universe Online
Black Light Retribution

And the included 30 days of PSN+ gives you:
Resogun
Contrast

On top of all this, they give you $10 for PSN purchases.

Contrast that with Microsoft, where we'll get to pay $100 more for the system and then play Killer Instinct with 1 character.
They should have thrown people a bone and at least given Spartan Assault and Crimson Dragon free to XBL members.

Reviews for Crimson Dragon aren't looking great. But I'm more interested in hearing what some of our forum members that actually like Panzer Dragoon think.

Man, Polygon slammed it - http://www.polygon.com/2013/11/18/51130 ... gon-review

McElroy usually knows his stuff, and it sounds like this games has been too many things along the way (Kinect/360/F2P/X1/Controller/etc.) so that it is now a sad amalgamation of ideas that does more to confound than delight. I'll still try it out, but my expectations are now very low.

Short on credits? Don't worry, you can buy jewels with real-world money that you can use to pay for these item packs or new dragons.

Well, at least the new Zoo Tycoon is turning out to be a surprisingly fun game.

I'm strongly considering this one:
The Xbox One version will feature both a 15-hour story campaign mode, the traditional freeform mode (infinite money), and challenge modes (short tasks lasting about 15 minutes). In addition, there will be real-time events and challenges that will match real-world events. Microsoft will donate to animal charities for completion of community events. "‘Take for example the recent Rhino killings in Nairobi park – we could set a community based achievement asking players to save 10,000 rhinos, and when unlocked money would be given to the park or a related charity‘ Jonny Watts, Frontier’s Chief Creative officer explains.
being more convinced!

That's pretty cool. Maybe I'll pick this up when a get a Xbox One. Could get it on the 360, but I don't want to buy it twice. Does Microsoft have an upgrade program? PC version would be nice too. Don't see any signs of one.

Poor gameplay aside, this may just be an optional time saver type of deal if you don't want to grind missions for extra $$.

I am glad I am waiting on getting an XB1. If I was seriously considering getting Zoo Tycoon as a launch game I would feel bad about my purchase.
