So yeah, no books in my library. It's all television shows, and as for a specialization, I focus primarily on Cartoon Network programs.

I know a lot about the shows and movies I work with, but truth be told I'm nothing compared to the KidVid folks.

Also, DVDs are really surviving . Its taking more than VHS took , VHS died something like 6 or so years after DVD release (96-> 2002, I believe last VHS movie released in 2004) . Bluray has been around for 7 years, almost everyone owns HDTV, movies are literally free to download through piracy in higher quality (in HD) and more convenient than going to pick up from the store, yet the DVD survives . I kind of feel that the DVD has higher sales than Blurays still.

I haven't seen a DVD in ages, but damn it was awesome to pop in a DVD and see an interactive menu for the movie in the late 90's

The jump from VHS to DVD was huge: you had deleted scenes, directory's commentary, skip to scene, and no rewinding. From DVD to BluRay is an uptick in image quality that many people don't notice.

This might sound stupid, but what is your duty as a librarian? Are you just responsible to organise and manage the library or are you supposed to know every book in there, what is it about, and where is it stored.

And when you say a library, how big are we talking about? How many books are in there

LET ME TELL YOU SOME OF THE BASICS OF LIBRARYLAND:
I work at a pretty large public library; I'm not sure how many books are in the collection, but it's certainly sizable. I'm specifically the local history librarian so I oversee a small collection of maybe about 1000 items (that's a random guess) related to the history of the city the library is in. The local history collection has limited access so people can't just browse it whenever they want, as they can with the rest of the library. I try to make sure the materials are kept safe to last for future generations, grow the collection with any new materials that are published about the area, and assist researchers, usually people who are looking for information about ancestors.

The tasks of running the library are split up between various departments. Cataloging determines where books go and makes sure they are findable when people search for them. Circulation checks materials in/out. And the reference librarians select materials to add to the collection and help users find the information they are looking for.

Haha, no, but I'll let you know when we're hiring! Besides, without folks like you, so much of that local history would be lost. It may not be glamorous, but it's vital, and I salute you for doing it.

Also upscaling DVD players hurt Blurays initial take off. I dont typically buy a bluray of a film unless it benefits from being in the newer format. For example, while I own the Wizard of Oz on several formats, the Bluray version I own is from this restoration:

Where they took a 8k capture of the nitrite film and cleaned up each frame individually (it took about three years - the film was three strips per scene shot at 24 frames so 72 images per second of film or 436,320* images [101 minute film at 24 frames]). Another great restoration was Bond 50th anniversary restoration, specifically Dr No. Here is their behind the scenes feature on the restoration:


But for something like most TV shows, I dont really see a reason to buy them on bluray.

That article is the real bulls#!t. Removing trans fats won't change flavor, at all. Saturated fat will still get the job done.

I think you're missing the point. The U.S. government aren't our mommies and daddies. They're sticking they're nose where it doesn't belong. They shouldn't have the right to tell us what we are allowed to eat and aren't allowed to eat. That's crazy. We're supposed to live in a free country.
