Sega Cd burning

Post by Seganerd »

Whenever I burn a game for my sega cd the first couple of screens show (like the konami logo for snatcher) then goes black and doesn't load anything past that. I know the roms are good because I used kega fusion. I'm also using nero (and they are cue/and mp3 images)
I will create a monument to non-existence.

Firstly, I'm just gonna go ahead and assume these roms are backups of games you already own legitimately. Now go here: http://www.racketboy.com/guides/ripping-bin-cue.htm and follow the instructions. I backed up my entire collection of 30 games and they all run just fine.

Try writing a Cue sheet and burning using cdrwin

go to http://www.goldenhawk.com/ and download the demo version. Should fix your problem. I used that prog to create files for most of the games that I released.

I am going to assume that for these games you are only making the one legal copy that you are legally allowed, and not using a downloaded iso.

If for some reason you have compressed your audio files by making them .mp3, you will have to convert them back to .wav. There are programs for this, and you can also do this using just Winamp.

If you import from lots of regions you may want to use ConvSCD or SCDConv to make sure that the game will play in your Sega CD.

That way if you bought something and see that your region is not availble, you can also use this to change the region of the game you just ripped.

Then, while this is not really necessary, go the extra step and rename all of the tracks, like this:

track01.iso
track02.wav
track03.wav
track04.wav

Then remove the Cue file that was generated.

Instead of using that Cue, get a program called "Sega Cue Maker",
put a copy of it in the folder with all of the game files, use that to make the cue.

Then just burn with Imgburn.

Also use Taiyo Yuden with Media ID : TYG02 or something similiar, at 16x with a good burner.

I know that people make perfectly working copies with crap cd's and without taking all those steps, but the poor media may stop working over time, and if you follow those steps, and you have ripped it correctly, this should always work.

I have a question, do any of you use a model 1 sega cd...or just model 2's, cause I've tried so many different ways of burning, ripping, etc. and to no avail.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

One MAJOR thing people overlook is CD quality. the Cheapest CD-r's don't work. Avoid the value brands; use Sony or Maxell (I've had a lot of success with the two myself)

also check your burn speed - the Sega CD is only a 2x drive... if you are burning @ 24 speed.. that is one reason.

the absolute best results I have had with backups is using a Yamaha CD-r drive with "Master Record" capability and some high quality CD-r's (as mentioned above) (although the Yamaha isn't totally necessary, but worth looking into)

Nero for the burn and you are good.

Also, if the intro is working, but not the resto of the game... maybe your Cue sheet (ifi a bin/cue) might be wrong? - the game could be looking for CD tracks that were not burned to the CD. (that should be enough for you to figure your problem)

I had a ton of problems burning backups for my model 2. Finally I got it to wokr. I ended up using sega cue sheet maker, and taiyo yuden cd-r's. I was trying to use sony cd-r's which are generally good quality and work great, no such luck. Switching the cd-r's made them work fine.

Some would start, some wouldn't get past displaying the Sega logo but were detected as real sega cd's. After switching media this went away and all work fine.

I can't get certain backups to work though... Example Lunar but others have reported this also. It starts but then freezes like you said.
