I find it super-rewarding in some ways but the pay and overall job/advancement-opportunities are lousy.
Re: Random Thoughts Thread
I don't pirate DVDs, but when I pay for a DVD and it has unskippable advertisements, previews, and/or FBI Piracy warnings, it really makes me wish I had pirated the damn thing because then it wouldn't waste my time with all that nonsense before getting to my movie/TV shows.
My contributions to the Racketboy site:

I never did get why they felt the need to tell their paying customer not to pirate. I bought the damn thing, clearly I'm not the person your anti-piracy PSAs should be targeting.J T wrote:I don't pirate DVDs, but when I pay for a DVD and it has unskippable advertisements, previews, and/or FBI Piracy warnings, it really makes me wish I had pirated the damn thing because then it wouldn't waste my time with all that nonsense before getting to my movie/TV shows.
Truthfully I'm not that bothered by the logos and such though. They're a minor annoyance at most, and it's honestly been a long time since I've bought a dvd/blu ray that actually had an obscene amount of unskippable stuff. I feel like it's mainly a problem with older releases. You get it with stuff like Redbox rentals still, but that's about it.
Besides, if you really want, you could use a program like MakeMKV to rip the just the movie itself without any of the logos, psas, trailers, etc and watch it on your computer that way.

It's pretty entertaining, though I'm a special librarian, so my work isn't "traditional" and I'm in a corporation as opposed to working for the public or in schools or academia. Originally I had planned to be a reference librarian at a university, but after getting my current position, I have no real desire to ever leave the corporate side. There's better pay and more opportunities here that I wouldn't get in other areas.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Just curious, how do yo like being a librarian?

Neat. It's a path I never really considered but I feel like, regardless of the pay, it might be something I'd enjoy doing. Even just working in a book store. I like the environment. I take it you need an English degree and probably something in the information field?
Older. Not wiser.
