When you answer "what do you want?" after having somebody transferred to you, you shouldn't be working in customer service. "Oh I'm sorry I saw it was coming from another rep." It doesn't fucking matter, who answers the phone like that?

Then after wasting my time after making what I want clear for 30 minutes he finally tells me "no, we can't do that" (on transferring my account name to the new WiiU. and apparently they can't unlink my ClubNintendo account either).

It made me mad. I hung up before I remembered to grab his name to complain to somebody about it.

Oh well.

What it made completely clear to me though, is Nintendo's online system is totally fucked. All purchases are tied to a console (which is bs in of itself), AND they apparently cannot see who bought what on said console. So whoever is running with my old WiiU now, their purchases are indistinguishable from mine in their system. What the hell kind of system is that?
sorry to hear about your trouble, Ryan.

I'd say something derogatory about the "Nintendo Network" but at this point it's like beating a dead horse that has turned to bones.

Any way, I do not understand how can a company that builds something as sophisticated as a Wii U with tablet, motion control, and complete OS for the system has difficult time setting a proper online service with user accounts and multiplayer. This kind of thing existed something like back in '96 with hotmail user accounts(which still works) and online multiplayer on PCs.

It is really quite strange. Nintendo seems to have one foot stepping for the future and another foot firmly buried 6 feet into 1992.

As for the whole online system. It's never been good, especially compared to modern PSN. It could be tolerable though. The problem is, they have failed to improve the system at all really. While you no longer have to enter numbers for friends you still have the entire suite of problems the original Wii had plus new ones too.

And all of this COULD STILL BE FINE. It's not though. They're heavily pushing digital distribution on a service that is simply not up to par and simply can't support what they're envisioning. They don't even have the internal infrastructure to manage what needs to be done. Which means there are just going to be more and more situations like mine. It's telling that so many studios are dropping DLC and multiplayer for the WiiU. If I had to guess, mostly because they don't want to deal with this bullshit and I certainly can't blame them for that.

The biggest shame is that the console has oodles of potential in my eyes. When I had Call of Duty having one guy on the gamepad and another on the TV was great; not having to share screens and all. The system isn't particularly powerful but Nintendo has shown it knows how to use it pretty well, Mario Kart 8 and Mario 3D World in person are just gorgeous. It's something new and different and while the control scheme certainly can't and shouldn't be used in everything, what it can be used for is something none of the other consoles or PCs can provide. I used to think that the online system was perhaps just a minor annoyance - something that could be ironed out and ignored while enjoying the rest of the system. It doesn't actually seem that way now though. Our world is so tangled up in the internet and the usefulness of good account systems is completely apparent to me seeing how much frustration a bad one can actually cause. A good online service causes you to forget it's even there, or even required; doing what it should without making its flaws apparent. The worst is I'm not actually sure Nintendo can do what it said it will, and modernize its archaic system. I guess time will tell though.

The situation made me want to throw my WiiU in the garbage and pick up a PS4 just out of spite. I really didn't understand some of the naysayers that well before but, seeing the frustration they must have had as well, I totally get why some people are particularly loud in their displeasure with Nintendo, particularly on this issue.

At least I enjoy my 3DS.

What is worse is that its just a software issue they can fix it with a download. You would think from 2006 ->2012 they had enough time to build a new online system but no. This is a funny issue I found with many companies, they would release something great then they would release other crappy products and they do not care to fix them.

I feel your pain. Last week, I bought a basic system. We've been playing Nintendoland and NSMBU. Yesterday, a good deal for a deluxe system appeared, so I bought one to "upgrade". I only had 3GB of space on the basic and it would be almost immediately used by Super Luigi U and Wii Sports, and I've been wanting the charging cradle.

The first thing I realize is that there is literally no way to copy over my save games. Fortunately, we only had a week's worth of play, so not much lost there, but still annoying. Then I try to copy over my Wii saves from Wii mode. Some of the games will not allow copying, so they are lost. I also lost all of my previous Wii shop purchases, but fortunately there were only a few and they would likely never be played again anyway.

Copy over the Wii Miis? Nope! Nintendo removed the Mii transfer function from Wii mode. Copying the Wii U Miis involved me exporting them as a QR code, copying the files to my computer, showing the QR code on the screen, and scanning them in on the new Wii U.

Okay, I can just log in with my existing Nintendo ID on the new system, right? Nope! For some reason they are permanently tied to the original system. I have to create a new ID. Fortunately, I still had the old system, so I was able to unlink my club Nintendo account and link it to the new system.

I considered calling support and asking if they could do a transfer, but a quick google revealed that it was not likely, so I didn't waste the time. I am lucky that I hadn't yet bought anything on the eshop or made any critical progress in a save game. I would be really pissed. As of now, I am just frustrated. I can't imagine how angry I will be if my system ever breaks and I lose everything.

This all feels like so much bullshit. I just bought a new iPad yesterday, upgrading from an older one. What did I have to do to transfer literally all my data and apps to the new iPad? Click a single button and type in my password. Everything I have ever done on my old ipad transferred to my new one, over the Internet, with a single tap.

My friend said that his VC games on the Wii was transferable to the Wii U, is that correct?

You can transfer all of your data from your Wii to your Wii U, including all VC games and saves (even non-transferable saves), but this can only be done once, and the data on the original Wii is deleted afterward.

The fact that Nintendo even can transfer over NNIDs is aggravating and proves there's no technical reason for them to be tied to console. What's the excuse?

Yes they are transferable, but you can only access them in WiiMode on the WiiU. You can pay a small fee to get your Wii Virtual Consoles converted to WiiU to play on the pad. I would have to check the prices and it the game would have to featured on the WiiU virtual console in order for a conversion.

I wish I had waited a bit before doing the Wii transfer. After upgrading to the deluxe, it was a pain in the ass to copy over all my old Wii saves. For some reason, the Wii requires you to run a game once before allowing you to copy or move a save onto the system. So I had to go through my stack of discs, loading each game for a few seconds.

While I was doing this, I did discover something interesting. Excite Truck doesn't have the "wrist strap" warning screen that every other game seems to have. Odd.

Not true. Nintendo will transfer all previous content from a Wii and Wii U to a new U. The process is a pita though. See 1st post. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=39608&start=1948

Nintendo is really not helping themselves by using such uptight policies , in the internet age, this can have a great backlash. Given Nintendo Wii U sales , they should really consider releasing a totally new GUI+firmware for the WiiU just like Xbox moved from the sliders GUI to the current one and they added the avatars.

I think they should allow all VC+WiiWare and Wii games to be playable no issue on the WiiU , just like Wii played GC games . If Nintendo makes money on each console sold, then this should only help them because I really do not see many people re-purchasing all the games. This is the exact kind of thing that makes people go down the piracy road...
