Yeah, I legitimately hate this game. Itoi can go fuck himself: "Have a sense of humor"— How about be funny/clever for once; hack.

I would really like to punch a physical representation of the Genius Photographer, and/or the game's item storage, right in the throat. (Tracy or Itoi would do also; or the Runaway Brother's. Any of the characters might do. They're all a pack of idiots.)

Wow, dude. I respect your opinion(s) on everything, because you are a fellow shmup fan and know a good game for real everywhere else. I'm not saying I'm a huge EB fan, but for what its worth, it had a few good and unique things not seen in other RPGs. That's all

As someone who played this for the first time a few months back, you make me sad :(

I was incredibly mad at the game. Morgan Freeman speaks the truth. I was spouting obscenities at my TV screen through the entirety of the credits, and the laughable teaser.

It has a couple moments, but I found them too infrequent, and too forgettable to justify the amount of my life I wasted on the game. Really don't care for it, and hopefully that's the last I have to say about the game. It's dead to me.

Shame you didn't like it pierrot.

I've been playing through it for the first time myself and I'm having a very pleasant experience.

Oh well. Your rant was pretty funny though.

That's what I love about RB. Nothing's sacred, even a profanity-laced tirade on a well-regarded and popular SNES RPG  We need that kind of brutal honesty.

This is one of the few websites where you can criticize "sacred cow" games and not get flamed to death over it.

I will say that in reading some criticisms of EB that were similar to my own, it appeared that if I actually decide to give Mother 3 a try, I might enjoy it. Although I'm cautiously optimistic that may be the case, I'm not touching anything in the Mother series for quite a while.

I just remembered:
As I recall, the Mother series was supposed to be known for some emotionally troubling endings. Was that just Mother 3? I know that the tag line for advertisement of Mother 2 was, 'No crying before the end,' but what would one even cry about? What is there to even be emotionally affected by in Mother 2? I had forgotten about that until now, but it may be a big part of my issue. The writing is so hackneyed despite the praise it receives for the "experience.'' I mean, it straight rips off DBZ during the final battle, and DBZ is not a particularly well written series to begin with.

The chronic fourth-wall breaking also invalidates the games progression for me. NPCs are the only characters that are really developed in any way, and usually so statically that they remain one dimensional. Itoi and NPCs often talk directly to the player, or through the main characters to the player. It's unsettling, and the writing is just such a mess. It's also so inconsistent in deciding whether it's going to play on realism or surrealism. I'm supposed to believe that it's necessary for me to pay a dollar each time I want to use a pay phone, wait three minutes for the password, or for a pizza delivery, when I'm being attacked by a crazed Dali painting, or a pile of belching trash? I can understand it being popular with Japanese kids 11 and under, but aside from that, I struggle to see any merit.
Also: Worst inventory management system conceivable for an RPG. That alone made me hate the game.

I really thought I meant it when I said I didn't have anything else to say about the game, but I guess I was wrong. :?

I also appreciate that no one has seemed to interpret my frustration with the game as an attack on his childhood/preferences/sensibilities. Thank you all for that.

RB has taught me a lot about respect for one's thoughts/feelings of a game. Especially with these TR nominations this year
