I'm not saying that the story, or the characters, in Evangelion even hold a candle to the aforementioned novels, but if you're just going to dismiss the idea of considering the plight of characters under the pretense that they're fictional, endeavoring to follow a story is meaningless.
Anything that legitimately attempts to tell a story deserves to be scrutinized beyond its face value.
I realize you may be feeling attacked a bit (this being the internet and all) and I'm sure my sarcasm doesn't help that, but I feel you're not being challenged enough in your thought, given some of those recent posts. That's concerning to me, considering your age. Empathizing may be a different story, but attempting to sympathize with, or understand a fictional character is not beside the point.
